Castrol GTX 10W-40 in the engine, but now that I have a better understanding on the matter I'll be switching to 5W-30 next oil change.
Pennzoil Syncromesh mixed with ATF in the tranny. Haven't changed the diff fluid yet (I really need to do that one of these days). I cannot recommend the ATF mixture in the tranny enough. It really breathes new life into old trannies. My second-gear synchro used to be basically unusable. Now, as long as I'm gentle with it, it works fine. It was a night-and-day improvement that'll get me by until I break it or swap in a TII unit.

Engine - Mobil 1 10W-30 in the FB while it was running. Tranny and LSD were getting ready to be changed out for Royal Purple (the previous owner used redline right before I bet bought the car). I can't remember what brake fluid I used.

Oil I use 10W30. Whatever is fairly cheap, it's all oil. I just make sure to use a decent filter. Have a K&N filter waiting to go on at my next oil change. Will be using Amsoil 75W90 gear oil in both tranny and diff. Have to flush the tranny, diff has fresh fluid in it now which will be changed for the Amsoil. Coolant I use either premix or go 50/50 green/distilled. If you don't know the last time your fluids were changed (ie:tranny, diff) make sure to grab some cheap stuff to flush out the gunk first. Change it up and drive it for a week, then change it out for some good stuff, Royal Purple or Amsoil. A friend of mine has tried both in his FB and said the Amsoil feels smoother. Do not do what I did and forget the LSD additive for the diff, if you have one. It acts pretty much like a locker without it. Motomaster (Canadian Tire brand) DOT4 brake fluid for brakes and clutch.

^Oil is a lot more important than you think. Cheap oil will break down much easier no matter the filter.

This article seriously needs to be required reading for everyone who buys their own motor oil:

I'm entirely aware of the importance of oil, but I also know that most oils are pretty much from the same few initial maufacturers. Same as gas. The various sub "manufacturers", or brand names, buy it in large quantities at a wholesale price, market, package and price it. It is then bought by the store who then marks it up and sells it to us. The "cheap" oil I got was actually on sale, that's why I bought it. Otherwise my second choice would have been Castrol. On top of that I regularily check my oil, so if it was getting that bad that fast, it would be changed ASAP, and the car burns the shit anyway, so there's no point in blowing the bank on oil. As long as it's good enough to do the job it's good enough for me. I'm not cheap when it comes to my car, but I try not to spend my money on marketing gimmicks as well. This is the same reason I'm not particular to any one gas station. Most of it's the same. I stay away from the private ones, but Shell, Petro-Canada, Sunoco, whatever. As long as I've at least heard of the stuff and not all bad things, I'll use it. On another note is my oil seals seem to be missing so she's burning even more than usual. |
