^Oil is a lot more important than you think. Cheap oil will break down much easier no matter the filter.

I'm entirely aware of the importance of oil, but I also know that most oils are pretty much from the same few initial maufacturers. Same as gas. The various sub "manufacturers", or brand names, buy it in large quantities at a wholesale price, market, package and price it. It is then bought by the store who then marks it up and sells it to us. The "cheap" oil I got was actually on sale, that's why I bought it. Otherwise my second choice would have been Castrol. On top of that I regularily check my oil, so if it was getting that bad that fast, it would be changed ASAP, and the car burns the shit anyway, so there's no point in blowing the bank on oil. As long as it's good enough to do the job it's good enough for me. I'm not cheap when it comes to my car, but I try not to spend my money on marketing gimmicks as well. This is the same reason I'm not particular to any one gas station. Most of it's the same. I stay away from the private ones, but Shell, Petro-Canada, Sunoco, whatever. As long as I've at least heard of the stuff and not all bad things, I'll use it. On another note is my oil seals seem to be missing so she's burning even more than usual. |
