Default 13B-RE Questions

Since for some reason, it's not too easy to find this info, especially since the search function shows no results for 13b-re even though i made a thread on it 2 days ago...

I know the intake gaskets are different, what other gaskets are different? Where can I get them? Can you order a new cosmo waterpump from mazda? Are the internals identical to the REW, oil pump etc.

Check eBay for gaskets...

You'd need to go to a Mazda dealer in Japan to get the Cosmo water pump.
This is why we swap the whole waterpump housing + water pump to an FC or FD unit.

As for internals...
I can't claim the rotors are identical, but Kouki FC turbo or FD rotors are identical in weight and compression ratio.
The bearings are not the same - FD rotors bearings are the deepest of all the rotary motor variants.
The FD stat gear 9-hole bearings are also better than the 3-window Cosmo ones.
Really minor differences, and they can all be swapped over...

So the FD waterpump assembly would be better than the S5 as well? So I might as well get a FD unit.

I was going to get a 26x19x3 griffin radiator, which one should I get? They have like 10 different kinds.

I dunno...
It depends.
Some people claim the FD water pump isn't that great.
I know the FC water pumps are cheaper.
There's a seller on eBay (usellit2me?) that sells brand new NOS water pump + housing for under $100.
That's a deal.
We've never had any problems with the FC water pump set-up, and we've converting it to a Meziere electric set-up on the 20B now.

Don't have any experience with the Griffin rads, as we only use AFCO racing rads ourselves.
The size sounds just about the same as the AFCO Racing 80125N.
The 80125N is a dual-pass design with the inlet / outlet on the same size as stock.

Well i went ahead and bookmarked the afco radiator then, i will use the S5 pump as well, do you know of any inexpensive places for a metal neck, or will it be simple enough to just make one? Also, with this type of radiator, and the S5 pump, will I need an AST? Where should I plumb it in to?

Will i be able to swap the RE pulley on the S5 W/P and continue to use a serpertine belt, or will i swap FC pullies onto the alternator/crank?

I read the faq on your site but i still have some questions on this.

Either make one or buy the cast aluminum one from Mazdatrix?

Good question...
We've always used S4 thermostat covers with the cap, so we never ran into problems with air getting trapped...

Yep, you can keep the Cosmo serpentine belts if you want.
Do you have the Cosmo alternator (pulley)?
I can't comment if the Cosmo alternator pulley swaps over to an FC alternator.
Sorry, I don't know the length of that belt, so you'd need to go to the auto parts store to source the right belt.
We normally use the v-belts that the stock FC uses.

Yeah, it's not 100% complete.
I haven't edited that thing in AGES. :P

So i'm thinking using an S4 neck and just making a new flange for it to fit on the S5 water pump housing would be my best option then.

I'm planning on just using the RE alternator if possible, i'll have to take a look at it once the engine comes in.
