				Premix oil reservoir recommendations

I'm thinking about doing an external premix by modding the MOP on my 12a. I'm thinking I can go to the pull-apart and grab a big plastic, mountable container from something to use as the reservoir. Heres my requirements: 1. Has to be safe for 2 stroke oil, won't dissolve or degrade with the oil in it. 2. I'd like something about 1/2 gallon so I don't have to constantly fill it. 3. Easy convertion to hook an output hose to it. 4. Nice to have would be brackets. I'm thinking I can start by looking at wiper fluid reservoirs because they are usually pretty large but I'm worried they may not stand up to the oil. Anyway, let the ideas fly. I'm open to any make, any model I can find in a pull-apart here locally.

I just stumbled on a Polaris XPLORER 400 2 stroke reservoir on ebay. Looked up the specs and it holds 2 qts, so its pretty good size. Looks like it has a level sensor as well.

I got this made (puts drain, nipples, etc. where you want) by a guy on ebay for like $25.00. If you need his info let me know, its very thick and well made. The cap is great as well. DSC_0035 by 9krpmrx8, on Flickr I also had this one that I bought at Advanced Autoparts for $10.00. The cap sucks a bit but the reservoir is good. I just got a four point strut bar so I have to rework my setup a bit now. sohn by 9krpmrx8, on Flickr

That looks like a universal aftermarket coolant overflow tank. They say not to use them for oil because it will degrade the plastic over a short period of time.

Yeah , I've been reading up on it and you need something that can stand up to 2 cycle oil. Just any ole coolant or wiper tank won't do, they will disintegrate in a matter of months. Thats why I started looking at motorcycles, snowmobiles and ATVs. Turns out the ATVs seem to have pretty large tanks on them. I think I'll get the Polaris ATV tank I saw on ebay. Once I do I'll do a writeup on how to mod the MOP for an external tank. I know its been done before but I think a more recent one is in order for the 1st gen.

I think j_tso was referring to the first 2 cycle reservoir you had from autozone. The custom one you have now I bet is made to standup to 2 cycle oil.

I made my tank for the 3rd gen out of sheet metal brazed together with a large fine threaded bolt for the cap .It is vented through the cap .The thing is shaped to fit the space and holds over three qts. I have made acouple out of 4 inch exhaust tubing and mounted them where the air pump mounts .I used the first gen oilfiller tube and plastic cap for the filling port .

With Brazing, (I have never done it) but is it similar to oxyacetylene welding by chance, where you have the two pieces, and join them by the filler rod...? Its something I might have to look into for the future.... hmmmm J.

Brazing uses the gases and the filler rod is flux coated brazing rod .I have been using it to make motorcycle gas tanks oil tanks ,repair parts . make fuel rail fittings attach sheet metal to mold motorcycle frames ect ect for over 45 years .

Tim, Donnie (AWS) has a nice external chrome oil tank on his car. It may be a little pricy but, it is nice looking solution for an external oil tank through the OMP.
