Default Wiring Dillema

Hey guys, been ages since i posted on this forum.

I've got a couple questions.

I own a S5 N/A, and i just purchased a S4 TII Swap (Price was perfect)

I wanna keep my S5 N/A Gauge cluster in, and working properly. i either wanna update my S4 Motor to S5 (electronically) and swapped, or keep it S4. (which ever is easier/avaliable

What do i need to "update" to use a S5 harness?

Or

What do i need to change to use a S4 Harness?

sorry to ask these question, but i'm very new to the TII game. lol

Car will go into limp mode if the series five ECU does not see the ouput of the series five OMP. Series five OMP will not fit on a series four engine. Hanging the series five OMP to the engine and plugging it in would overcome that problem. But then you have to pour oil into the gas tank at each fillup. Retarded imho.

You need a series five boost sensor if using a series five ECU (turbo ECU). You would not use a non turbo ECU for obvious reasons.

You need a series five AFM to use with your series five ECU. Turbo AFM.

You need to swap the series five alt to the series four engine..........two wire elect plug won't fit b/t series.

Volt gauge should work normal. Oil pressure should work normal but the connector on the oil pressure sender is different b/t series.Fuel oil and tach should all work the same.

I assumed your going to use the series five harnesses completley and no series four harness at all. Use a series four EM harness and you've got big problems rewiring.

There's other things to be done like the exhaust etc too many to mention. Like loss of the series four twin scroll actuator etc. On and on and on grows the list.

Thanks, i do remember the OMP part. the Alt isn't a big deal, cause i have a S5 Alt on my FC currently, exhaust i was planning on a whole new manifold simply because i've heard that the actuator is an annoyance and fails.

Now i'm confused about the Voltage part, because TII don't have em, so how would it work normally?

Now last question whats the possibility of using a S4 Harness with my S5, and just keeping the engine a S4?

****Now i'm confused about the Voltage part, because TII don't have em, so how would it work normally?****

That confuses me. If you have a non turbo car like I thought you said........they have a voltage gauge. So it'll keep on working. Nothing has changed to make it not work. It gets its power from the Meter fuse in the interior box and has zip to do with the harness on the engine (EM).

Use a series four ECU and EM harness?? It can be done but to tell you the truth........if YOU could do it you would not be asking these questions. You could learn but right now you don't know what is involved. The series four EM harness plugs will not interface with the series five harness much less the series five ECU in case you were thinking about using that item. This is not an insulting statement and was not meant to be. Just the way I see things and nothing more.

Actually just hanging the series five MOP on the harness and using the stk series four OMP and it's rod that connects to the throttle linkage means you don't have to slop oil in the gas tank. I forgot that.

And another thing.......if one used the series four EM harness on the engine........then you automatically lose the connection b/t the CAS and the ECU. That wiring is in the EM harness on a series five but on the series for the CAS wiring to the ECU passes thru the Engine harness then to the Front harness and then to the ECU. Those wires for the CAS won't exist anymore if the EM harness is changed from series five to series four.

That is one small example of why one NORMALLY would not TRY to put a series four EM harness on a series five car. Just one example.

I might have misunderstood the question you had about the VOLTAGE you mentioned. If so say so.

You won't have any issues with the cluster at all., because you can't use the s4 electronics. The blocks are identical enough, but the electronics and emissions are different.

Things you can do:
- Use the s5 N/A harness if you are not using emissions.
- Change the throttle body (TPS), front cover, and all electronics (ecu, AFM, map, injectors) to S5 TII spec
- Block off emissions incl EGR

Things you can't:
Use the s4 harness
Use the s4 turbo electonics incl omp and injectors

yes i definatly don't plan to have emissions lol. now by turbo electronics, i can use a S4 Turbo right? or am i looking for a S5 Turbo right away??

about the voltage, i didn't know it wasnt part of the engine harness, so that makes me feel better.

So, pretty much best and easiest chance of getting this up and running ASAP is "updating to a S5" Motor.

THanks guys u guys are awesome, i'll definatly add a build thread over here!

Yeah, my bad. Just swap the front cover over from S4 cover to the S5 cover so you can use the S5 OMP. And like he said....the series four TPS can't be used with series five ECU/OMP. Gotta change the throttle body to series five to use the series five TPS. Series five TPS won't bolt to the series four throttle body.

Stk series four turbo will work but the twin scroll actuator won't be functional 'cause the series four ECU is what causes the vacuum to come and go on the twin scroll actuator via a solenoid. But no matter. If the twin scroll actuator sees no vacuum, the twin scroll mechanism (flap) goes wide open........meaning the turbo will spin up a touch slower/later.

If you have a series five turbo......put it on the series four engine.

No problem. i've heard that that flapper is a pain, so i was actually planning on upgrading to a tubular manifold to eliminate it lol

is the S5 TPS the same for N/A / TII?? in that case are the Tb's Similar as well?? lol

No. Series five have two plungers on the TPS and the series four only one.

One of the S5 is narrow range and the other full range.

They're not interchangable.

You can also get around having an OMP by getting an RTek ECU. It gives S5 TII's the option to disable it in the ECU code.

Otherwise, good info here.

sorry i wasn't clear lol. i ment can a S5 TII TPS and a S5 N/A TPS interchange?

Good point, i do currently have a Rtek 2.0 on my S5 N/A too bad it won't work with the new TII lmao
