Trailer hitch for the FB
Hello everyone,
I am wondering if any of you have a trailer hitch for the FB? Where did you get it from etc.. I am looking for something to tow a "track trailer" loaded with wheels, tires, tools, tent, and normal track gear Nothing major. Uhaul makes one for my FD but they said they had no offerings for th FB( When i asked along time ago_) Post pics if you have one and any info. Thanks, Dave |

I am working on having one made. It will bolt onto the tie down mounting points. Let me know if anyone else is interested in these. Will let you know more next week after I talk with my fabricator. Email directly also to keep reminding me to post here.

Simple solution
I looked around several years ago for a receiver hitch for my '83 and it turned out that nobody made one. Still the case, unfortunately. Currently, Curt Mfg. makes a class 1 hitch for the FB. Simple bolt-on. Then you get a small receiver and weld it to the hitch tongue. Seems to work fine for my motorcycle trailer.

Otterbob, do you have any support going forward? Is that the Curt? Looks like it is made with channel.
We should be able to offer one similar to the Curt but the support that goes forward will be above the cross member. So the cross member will be taking the load, not just the welds. We will also offer small receiver. 210 at the most. Less for ball only. Should be able to do better if there are a few people interested. Ratings will be the same as the curt 1000lb max tow and 100lb tongue. The Curt does require drilling. We are kicking around a couple of options. Besides the similar to curt design one that bolts to the body cross member the u bolts are used on the bumper shock shafts. This system is used with some bolt on trailer hitches for trucks. The hitch on my car was, I believe, made by Dalan and is rated at the usual class 1 capacities. It is made of +/- 2"x 1/2" flat steel bar. The center section, which is the hitch tongue itself, extends back (toward the front of the car) a few inches and then turns up and bolts to the crossmember via a plate w/ 4 bolts. The external mounting piece which is visible in the photo is 1 1/2 x 1/2" flat steel and extends past the license plate and up to the bumper where it uses 2 bolts per side. The receiver part was my doing. There is about 3" of weld on either side of the receiver to the hitch tongue and it should be good up to rated hitch capacity. Curt Mfg. is new to me and I did not find it around when I was looking for a hitch. They may have taken over Dalan as I now find the names sort of mingled when I look for hitches.

I had one made that bolted to the bumper using the factory bolt holes. I took it off the car when I was done and have since never used it. If I still have it I will post pics. It was a real easy build for a lightweight trailer.

There is a fb for sale in cars.com or autotrader. It's in Indiana, light blue with dark blue int. He has a hitch. Looks sweet as far as hitches go.
