Fuel Pump Relay vs EGI Fuse Info Please
Is there a difference between pulling the Fuel Pump Relay as opposed to the EGI Fuse when deflooding?

EGI = Electronic Gasoline Injection
EGR = Exhaust Gas recirculation EGI fuse is in the direct line to the EGI main relay. The incoming power to the relay and then sends it to the ECU. The EGR fuse... i'm not sure if the FD has one...

Thanks Tray, sorry I even posted this LOL. I was thinking of the fuel pump relay not the EGR. (face palm)

yeah, i was confused with your original question. but i've been there, done that myself. no worries old friend...i've asked "silly" questions because I got confused and mixed things up in my head...
so... to answer the question of pulling EGI fuse VS fuel pump relay to stop injectors... both should work, as well as pulling the fuel pump fuse in the fuse block in the kick panel. and from my personal experience, either of the two fuses are easier to remove, the EGI being the most convenient and doesn't require bending! And to keep with this idea, you should be able to pull the EGI main relay to get the same effect since it falls right after the EGI fuse in the circuit. I'll go back and check about pulling the B1 and/or B2 fuses and see if either of those will produce the same thing...

Thank you Brent (It's Mai
![]() Thanks Tray. I've read different things on several How To's and was confused. The fact that either/or will do the correct thing is helpful. |

The safest is to pull the EGI and circuit opening relay. That way you will not be feeding any signals to the ECU. That is the easiest for me because everything is there. I know they can be a pain, that is why I bought the Blue Point YA9811 relay removing tool. I am sure checker or autozone have their own versions in KD.

To bring this thread back to life and provide more information that i've discovered while looking into FD wiring..
The Fuel Pump Relay is used to force 12v to the fuel pump (by passing the Circuit opening relay and fuel pump resistor). From my research, this happens in hi-boost. The Circuit Opening Relay is for sending power to the fuel pump through the Fuel pump resistor... The EGI main from the wiring diagrams appears to send power to the ECU. The Circuit Opening Relay gets a signal from the ECU to send power to the fuel pump through the previously mentioned Fuel Pump resistor... So... to prevent the fuel pump from engaging during start up, pulling the Circuit Opening Relay might be sufficient... if the ECU doesn't send a signal to the Fuel pump relay to build pressure... so maybe pull both relays... or EGI main...
