Never mind, it's fixed now.

For what it's worth I know a couple of people who will rebuild them for $75. I also picked up a spare rebuilt one off of eBay for $30, then shook my head in disbelief as the next two after that sold for over $100, one rebuilt by the same guy I got mine from and the other one from some guy untested.

Yep, I couldn't believe it either. I had them on my watch list and like I said just shook my head after the bidding ended.

Who rebuilds them? I know my blue needs to be redone. I think I have two total laying around. I do the same thing you do with parts. Buy them if they are cheap if not wonder where people get there money. They throw it away so easy!

Pele on the RX-7 club does them for $75 and the same way that Icemark use to do them before he passed.

Quote:
I basically took Icemark's lead and duplicated his procedure and price, just rolled shipping and paypal fees and everything into the price. The price is $75.

You ship the switch to me and I go over it thoroughly when I pull it out of the box. I email you letting you know it's here and what I found.

I will completely dismantle the switch and replace all the relays. Occasionally, I will get one that has a sticky knob that will get stuck down in the "Mist position" I take that knob apart and add a little grease to lubricate it and allow it to slide a little easier... But sometimes the spring is just too old...

After it's all repaired, I put it all together and plug it into my car to test it. Once it's working perfectly, I send it back to you and you get a 6 month warranty. Like I said, shipping and paypal fees are included, so it's just flat $75. I only collect money after I'm done with the switch.

There are two relays in the switch. One is for parking, the other is for high speed. (There is a 3rd relay in rear wiper cars.) The main problem with these switches is that the relays are rated at the exact amount of power that the wiper motor takes. The relays are in a case that is two pieces put together. Since it's two pieces, there is a crack between the two parts and that allows moisture to get in. The moisture corrodes the contacts inside the relay and breaks them down. In the end they do not pass power to the wiper motor.

The relays that I use are completely sealed and are rated a little higher.

I usually include the old relays with the final package. You can see the moisture damage to one and the burned up contacts on the other.
Also RotaryMike will rebuild them.

Got my switch back from Pele. He even included a work sheet showing customer's stated problems, what he checked, what he fixed, test results before and after, so on and so forth. Now to put it back in the car!
