A Renesis has been swapped into a first gen RX-7 years ago.
You need the entire wiring harness, engine, trans, custom driveshaft. You need to make sure the 240Z clutch master cylinder can be adapted, or use a custom set up. You also need a full set of custom gauges along with a speedometer solution. Keep in mind that you will also need to sort out an oil cooler (a second gen would work well). These are all basic things, and apply to almost any cross-breed engine swap. Custom engine and trans mounts. Custom exhaust set up, and intake. And it takes money

Will the ECU go into some kind of limp mode if it doesn't see input from all the electronic stuff that the RX8 has that the Datsun doesn't have (ABS, traction control, etc)? I have a feeling much more electronic trickery will be involved that just tossing in the stock ECU.
PS, this topic would see more traffic if it was in the rotary tech section. It'll probably get moved soon enough.

The quest for more torque

Why go Renesis? It is not that hard to get equivalent power out of a S4 13b and it will cost you a lot less (fewer electrical woes to sort out, better documentation available, more readily available aftermarket parts, etc.). Even an s5 13B (much easier to make equivalent power out of) would not cost anywhere close to a Renesis.
I have $750 in my entire engine build, including purchasing the engine and make 200 WHp.

renesis swap
Hi, Thanks for inputs I have two renesis motors and 6 speed transmission! I have microtech ecu but it doesn't open the intake VFAD,APV,VDI,SSD valves! So, that means I have to keep them open! This is why I was hoping someone could tell me how I could use stock ecu! Fly by wire throttle body for cable pull operation that was a proplem to with stock ecu. Thanks for inputs! CHAD

Oh! I didn't realize that you had the engines already.
I don't think that there is a pat formula for installing a newer fuel injected engine in an older car. You will most likely need to lengthen portions of the wiring harness and install resistors or dead modules in the harness in other places to trick the ECU. Traction Control and ABS may also be issues on the older car. I know that there are a certain amount of harness building requirements for the LS1 into FC swap. I think your best bet is to tackle the project with a factory RX8 service manual or a good (Haynes, Cloyes, etc.) manual in hand. A manual for both cars would help you. I don't know a lot about Renesis engines or Microtek ECUs, but my Haltech has RPM switch outputs that you could drive Relays with to open those ports you speak of.

I believe Motec has a Plug and play option for the Renisis that would make all those problems go away

I'm installing a Renesis in my '79sa. I'm custom building an intake for a side draft mikuni and exhaust header. I really like the 1 off idea. Unique all the way! It helps to have a bro that does tube bending and spare parts. Ultimate goal is to fit a RX'8 suspension under a 1st gen. I'll get pics asap on the other forum of course. Please keep us posted on your build.

I'm going carb. I don't have money!!! Imagination and want to have something different. I'll post photos and budget as soon as I can. I own a 9 digit '79sa. 12a parts are too hard to find and simply wanted something different. So, decided on Renisis (stuck with 4 port) w/Mikuni 44. Hoping for 200+/-. Please try not assume that everyone has gobs of money simply because we want something different. I respect this site and it's members. Usually lots of great advice and support. I thank you for that support and great advice.

Another solution is to just get the RX8 dash harness and gauge cluster... it's all ECU controlled... even the radio is ECU controlled. As for missing electronics, you could get an access port and have mazda maniac tune the car and disable all the warnings / ignore them. He sells the Access Ports for $500 tuned.
