How to remove Powersteering pump from engine?
Hey guys,
I'm trying to pull out the engine, but I can't with the powersteering pump still on. I know it's a noob question, but how do I take it off the engine? I don't want to disconnect the lines, I just want to move it aside for now, and put it just reconnect it when I'm done. Any help is appreciated. Thanks!!! |

i've typically removed the PS pump from the engine while its still connected to the mounting bracket. to do so, you have to remove the A/C pump from the bracket. it has 4 bolts holding it, two on top, two on the bottom. If my memory serves me correct, you can pull three of them out and one you will not have the clearance with the frame rail to pull it completely out.
once those are removed, you can slide the A/C compressor out of the way and get to the 3-4 bolts holding the mounting bracket for the P/S pump. I have never actually removed the pump from the bracket...

to remove the pump from the bracket, take the PS pulley off and you'll see the bolts holding it in place... Pretty simple..
If you don't have a impact to take the PS pulley nut, you might be able to leave the bets and such and use a wrench... But I've always had to use an impact.

Like Phil said, remove the pulley, there are 4 bolts that hold it to the bracket, three you will see when you remove the pulley. The forth one is set back a little just below where you take out the other 3.
As a side note, I use zip ties to attach it to the brake master cylinder to keep it out of the way during engine R & R. Dan
