Garfinkle's Custom 99 Rotor Cross drill (ton of pics)!
Well, I was searching for some cross drilled rotors to replace my 99 spec rotors.. But after searching and realized how expensive it could be (800-900 for JUST fronts), I've decided to take my near new 99 Stock rotors to Garfinkle.
I'll be honest, I was mainly looking for look vs. function (but 99 brakes are noticeably better in general vs stock 93+). Anyhow, I am super happy with the results. Garfinkle worked out the harmonics of cross drilling and counter sunk ever hole! This particular custom drilling took him many hours of planning and many hours to drill (as you could see by number of holes). Also drilling probably lessen the weight of the rotors by couple of pounds (i didn't think to weigh it, but did feel lighter). If you have 99 rotors or any other rotors you want to custom drill, definitely sent them to Garfinkle! He knows what he's doing. This particular job will cost you $250 + shipping. Personally, I think its worth the work! I'm going to put them on today and will post some pics on the car.. Mean while, please look at the rotors off the car. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]()

Someone should correct me if I'm wrong about this..
But I believe ONLY RX7s that came with 17 inch wheels got the larger rotors... 99+ RZs and such. Once you go 99+ larger brakes, you can not use your 16 inch wheels.

Correct, the larger brakes came on models with 17 in. wheels for 1999-2002. Won't fit with the stock 16's, I tried just to see.
The later brakes use 12.3 vs. 11.6 in. rotors. Front calipers have revised piston sizes. Rear calipers are no different except for mounting tabs to place them out further. Jack |

The stock rotors can be drilled also .The smaller rotors have a different number of vents and can be drilled in sweeping paterns,as mine are .

What parts are required to change to use the 99+ rotors?

You need the 99+ calipers to use the rotors. If you haven't already, I would advise replacing your brake lines as well. The backing plates are larger as well. I know some people have cut the old ones off. The part numbers for all of these components can be found in the stickies at the top of this sub forum.
