The bracket mounts the two stock trailing coils and the sec gen leading coil in a clear space below the steering shaft .The plug wires will be short and the coils are out of the heat .There should not be any trouble with water being a problem if all the connections are sealed .I have had my coils mounted low for many years and no shorting in the rain. (Thanks Chad for the pictures)

Great solid mount, no chance to heat soak, allows you to keep your cruise control and like David said he has been running his coils in that spot for awhile now with no problems. A Win Win for everyone...........

Another BIG PLUS is shorter wires!! I didn't like the other set up as wires were twice as long. This set up makes the wires shorter than stock

I will give a price after I check material cost and the time to copy a master pattern .The first ones are made with alum plate ,I may do the rest with steel plate that will cost less . I will supply the bolts and spacers for the coils .I will modify the wiring if needed .

David, Do you have to drill the holes to mount this?

Very nice work once again David.
Few questions: 1) Do the coil wires need to be extended or modified? 2) Could a stock 3rd gen leading coil be bolted up just as easily? 3) Would stock 3rd gen or any other off the shelf plug wires be appropriate? |

I will try to answer this, but let David tell you for sure.
Brent, we did drill holes and placed a threaded insert in to allow us to be able to remove it as needed. AHarada, the coil wires would be best if custom fitted to the exact length to have less wire needed. I don't think the stock 3rd gen coil would bolt in the same holes but you could re drill it if you wanted, but why when the TII coil is alot better and cheap to pick up. A set of wires where you can trim them to the popper lengths needed would be petter as not to have alot of extra wire. Hope that helps.

I can make the plate to use all stock coils but the sec gen coil is an upgrade and cost way less to replace .

Actually the wires I use have a resistivity of 40-50 ohms per foot. Wires that are measuring in 2.5 feet have a resistance of 100-125 ohms. Last time I checked that was LESS than stock..
But who looks into that stuff anyways... ![]() Nice method David, good to see another approach. |

The wires I make from the roll are MSD 8mm with 40 ohms per foot .

My logic behind using 3rd gen coils are, I already have 10+ of these with no issues for my power range. Why spend more money if I don't have to??

The master plate is made for the plate using the 2nd gen leading coil and the drilling jig is made .The master plate is made for the plate with all stock coils but the drilling jig is NOT made as of today . I will make the jig as soon as I can get the time .The plate with the sec gen coil has 10 theaded holes and four spacers ,the stock coil plate has 9 threaded holes and no spacers .Both plates have matching mounting holes ( 4) so the plates will interchange if needed . The plate for the sec gen coil is a small bit longer .If I made one plate that mounted both types of coils then there will need to be 13 threaded holes ,that will drive the cost up so that will not be considered . Plus the spacers .
