Reintroduction for those who don't know me...
...of which there are probably many.
So, I'm still a noob when it comes to things I suppose. I still can't tell you the differences from a Q-trim or P-trim wheel, why you'd want one over the other, or anything really relating to a turbo. I have limited track experience, I haven't built my own motor (yet) and I haven't even driven the car in the last two years, not any time that counts anyway.
I picked up the car in August of 2002. It kind of fell on my lap actually. A friend of a friend was going through a divorce and wanted to get rid of the thing just so she wouldn't get it. I just started looking for a toy too. I had intended it to be a daily driver too so in honesty, I hadn't even thought of these. The first time I saw one in person was in California in 1996. You'd think that being in Japan the year prior I would have, but for whatever reason, I didn't. Anyway, I loved the lines, etc, but it quickly left my mind. I was more the classic muscle car guy those days.
Anyway, so I decided to take a look at it. It was very clean. Had about ~89k miles on it IIRC. Pretty much a bone stock R1 save for exhaust, intake, and, unknown at the time, a reflashed ECU (GK Motorsports...yeah...I know). Five days later, I came back with check in hand and away I was...
...only to kinda sorta put it into a tree...or rather really large bushes seven weeks to the day later. Oops on my part.
Fast forward to the spring of 2003 and we're back on the road with fresh paint, wheels and a couple gauges and it was all downhill from there.
I became infatuated with the car. Went single that winter with A-Spec's GT35R kit, which I loved. Several track days and many many thousands of mods later, I got cocky/stupid and brought up the boost a little too high and bye bye motor. That was May of 2006. It's since been rebuilt and is awaiting a few pieces and will be back on the road again in, I hope, five weeks to give it a proper thrashing at Gingerman.
In 2004, I assumed command of Rc³. I launched a new site (which is now horribly outdated) and a forum and we finally just came out with our first, real, and properly formatted newsletter. A few of us locals are really trying to get the club out of the gutter and really make a name for ourselves. We're working on a charity FC build that we're going to auction off for a local charity (TBD), participating in local community events and generally increasing participation with track events, etc.
