Default Different classes and Levels of AutoX

I am personally curious and I know some searching on the internet will provide the results but thought it might be nice if someone is willing for this section to provide details that breaks down the various classes and levels such as beginner, amature, what class would your bone stock be in or what if you have such and such mods basically what each class consists of mod wise.

Jonathan

Not sure what Rx7 you are asking about but I assume a 3rd gen since I bought parts from you (great experience by the way). Below are just general guild lines.

Bone stock would be Super Stock, allowed changes would be shocks, swaybars, catback exhaust and DOT R compound tires.

Next class up would be ASP. Intake, Exhaust, Computer, unlimited boost (stock turbo’s only w/ no modification) Suspension (shocks and springs, can’t change mounting point), tires and wheels (DOT R compound) plus anything allowed in SS.

Street Mod 2, Almost anything goes, would have to read the rules for what is not allowed.

If you have any questions about a mod and classing, just ask.

Hope this helps,
Dan

Yeah it does, actually I'm asking about an rx-8. My 7 is going to be down for at least a couple more years and I don't think I'll be trying to autox a 20b single.

So far on the rx8 I've changed the catback and will be installing f/r strut bars and a member brace set hopefully this weekend.

Stock is B-Stock, everything you list is allowed but the member brace which would put you in STU or BSP depending on if you wanted to run street tires or DOT R compound tires.

Thanks Chadwick. I will probably run some at Motlow with the TLSCC. I just run for fun. With a bone stock worn suspension and Firehawk Indy 500 tires, I am not really competitive in my class But it is still fun to outrun stock C4 vettes and Sti's

Cool! Good to know.. I'm also going to be same as Jonathan.. just front rear strut and cat back... How about suspension? just spring and struts? And how about if I kept it Mazda (Mazdaspeed)?? I was always curious if that would be consider OEM?

What about engine swaps? I want to do some autox with a TII swapped n/a FC, would that bump classes due to technically not being the "factory" engine or would it not matter because you could purchase the same car turbo. hope that makes sense.

You'd get bumped to at least SM2 since the car didn't come from the factory as a turbo. The only way around that is to *completely* convert the car to a TII, and that means *everything*. Even at that, if you've made other simple mods you'd get bumped out of stock class anyway.

Now, depending on what else you've done to the car you may even get bumped to a Prepared or Modified class (gutted or partially-gutted interior would be the most obvious).

I'd suggest following the link posted above and take a stroll through the rule book, then check back in with whatever questions you have.

Cheers,

Chris

Shocks are free in stock class (meaning you can change them as long as they use the same attachment point) but springs are not.

Parts are not consider OEM unless you order the car from the factory with them on, dealer installed parts don't count. So a Mazdaspeed 6 could run in the stock class, but putting a Mazdaspeed PPF on a RX7 would bump it to street prepared.

Hope this helps,
Dan

I'm alittle confused on the strut bar section in the rules

"Strut bars are permitted with all types of suspension. Strut bars
may be mounted only transversely across the car from upper
right to upper left suspension mounting point and from lower
right to lower left suspension mounting point. No other configuration
is permitted."

Does this mean only a single straight side to side bar is allowed or do the AutoExe bars also qualify.

I'm stealing Phil's pictures so you can see what I'm talking about since I've only installed the rear so far or I'd use my own.

By the way Dan, and the others that have been helping to answer questions its much appreciated by those of us that may have an interest in the sport just don't know enough about it.

It doesn't have to be a single bar or straight but it can only have two attachment points, one on each side at the upper or lower suspension mounting points. Both the bars you posted pictures of do not meet the rules you quoted.
