Default Introducing my FB!

Here is my FB in all of it's just-purchased glory!

Story goes, I had a street-ported 86 RX-7 over 5 years ago. Didn't have it long, but I loved how it drove, and how fast it was! I sold it and regretted it ever since.

Fast-forward to early last week. Another forum I'm on started talking about cars we've sold, and which ones we regret/miss the most. I've been going through car withdrawals ever since selling my Turbo'd Thunderbird back in September, so I started looking up RX-7's on craigslist for the grins and giggles...

Then I happened upon an ad for an 83 RX-7 GSL, 5-Speed, sunroof (metal and glass), for a good price. I met the seller at PI last Saturday while I was attending some racing with my Crown 'Vic. It was a red-on-red GSL, 5-Speed, manual steering, rust-free.

We got to talking about other cars, and a few minutes later we were making a deal. I traded a Ford 302/5.0 roller motor, complete with all of the fuel injection/wiring/ECU, for the RX-7.

Anyways, it gets here tomorrow to stay permanently (and the motor goes away). I'm really looking forward to it! I already have the title and insured it, so I'll be ready to go as soon as it shows up

These pics are from last Saturday when I "bought" it.

Being that you've modded cars before.. especially since you seem to like torque - what plans do you have for that clean FB?

Well, my past car list is way to long to list, but the modded ones are easy.

1. 1987 Thunderbird Turbo Coupe; 2.3T/T5 Manual, gutted and then some, never worked right on the track but a solid 15-second car. Seemed fast to me
2. 1986 RX-7 GSL; 13B/5-Speed, street port, header, exhaust, some other stuff, 13.8@102 with a bad 3rd gear synchro.
3. 1985 Mustang; 289/C4, 4Bbl, headers, etc. Had a 2.73 peg-leg and no converter. Fun on the highway!
4. 1988 Thunderbird Turbo Coupe; 2.3T/T5 Manual, SC50R ball-bearing turbo, rebuilt engine, WAY too much money, 14.7@93 with a 2.6 60'! Had low-14's/high-13's in it with DR's.
5. 2001 Crown 'Vic Police Interceptor; 4.6 SOHC/4R70W auto, mods in sig, just got this one in December, my daily driver, I'll be playing with it for awhile! 15.1@92 so far.

Everything else was kept stock, or very lightly modded, or else wasn't modded for racing (had some show cars and a mud truck in there).

As for the 12A FB? I dunno yet, I really have fond memories of my FC and I already have that nice V8 rumble in the 'Vic. I'll be keeping it rotary for a long time. However, if the 12A decides to fail before I have another rotary to stab in, there's a big-block 401ci AMC in the garage waiting for a home...

The best part of FBs is the interiors. They generally hold up pretty well

The interior is pretty nice. Needs some seat work and a pair of a-pillar plastics and I think that's about it.

Yeah I'm pretty lucky with the last two! I usually do OK when it comes to cars

If that's the only thing wrong with your burgundy interior, you scored big time. I've got no back carpeting (ripped it out because of the expansive fungal colony inhabiting it), faded/discolored everything, missing door handle inserts (had one when I got it, but it quickly crumbled away to nothing), and broken storage bin hinges. At least my door skins are pretty good, and the dash only has a small crack in it.
