Anyone else hate the OEM security system?

Thankfully, the alarm on mine doesn't use the horn for some reason, but the flashers like to come on randomly...all the time. Any reason for this and how can i disable it? I really have no use for the passive aggressive security system.

Tear out the system?

Usually the false alarms happen because the key is removed before the system is disarmed (arming comes from locking the doors without the key, disarming should come when the doors are unlocked with the key). Sometimes mine goes off, but that just requires me to re-insert the key and turn it to unlock.

Check your electrical connections to and from the door and door jamb. They may be the cause of the false alarms.

I had all kinds of issues with my factory alarm. Every time I would unlock my car with the key, it would go off and I wouldn't be able to start the car unless I disconnected the battery cable or put my key in the hatch and opened it and closed it. Finally I disconnected the alarm in the ECU under the drivers side kick panel. Theres a plug in there that you need to unplug and it should disable it. If you go through the FSM you will see which one it is.

What gen is your car?

If it is second gen - and anything like the convertible, the alarm is going off randomly (when you don't lock the doors) because the slight weight of the lock lever itself - after years of use and being worn, is engaging the alarm system when you think it shouldn't.

Mine does that but it is even worse on my car because it has the OEM vibration sensor under the center armrest. That means that when it is unlocked, then the system arms itself because it is worn; then when the wind blows and rocks the car, the alarm goes off.

My simple solution is to make sure the passenger door is also unlocked when I leave the driver door unlocked. (Edit: This works for me because the pass side lock is nowhere near as worn as the driver lock.)

Yah my alarm would never go off if the passenger side door was unlocked. I got sick of it though and unplugged it. I have an FC.

i am going to have to find the alarm and disable it. So unplugging it has no strange effects?

Shouldn't. It's mostly just completing the circuit to the lights and horn on a relay so they flash and what not, but I don't have a wiring diagram in front of me to confirm.

I don't have a horn so I don't know if it effected that or not, but my turn signals and my hazards still work perfectly.

JunpoweR is an unknown quantity at this point
Just take the door panel off and unplug the sensor relay to disable the stock alarm.
