Default RX8 mid pipes..

I see that Mazsport MP is nothing more than Racing beat resonators on a their mid pipe. I'm thinking about buying one of the resonator for my duece!

Wondering if there is any ill affects by using MPs on the 8. I just don't have any experience in them.

I have heard some pluses and negatives to it. The obvious is it throws a CEL. Some people I know/have met that have one have reported some problems with one after several months, such as finicky starts and hard idling. Reseting the engine management corrected most of the problems. Some people have had flawless performance as well.

Is this in relation to the other thread?

Other thread.. you mean GB?? Well, That came about after this one. I was trying to trouble shoot my car and been thinking about MP. After talking to one of RCC sponsors, i thought I ask about making one. Mazsport and RB aren't RCC sponsors and I think 470 for RB resonator (2x$88) and some Staiinless seem bit high. The No Limit guys are good and I just sent my RX2 to them for exhaust work.. So, I thought it might work out for all of us and save close to 100 bucks!

Racing Beat sells just the replacement pipe for $239. It won't create any silencing properties, but that is what a muffler is for, right? The way I see it is that the stock exhaust is so quiet that putting a straight pipe there in place of the cats is just going to make the exhaust actually heard. lol

Do you honestly think it would need the resonators in there to remain quiet enough for daily usage? I mean all I hear in my Rx8 is engine when I get on it, none of the exhaust at all. Then again, I was used to an FB with head to straight pipe to racing beat header. If it is quieter than that, it would be livable in my mind.

When i do this I'll be sure to keep the cats in case it is too loud, and assuming that I do actually do it. Still undecided if I will.

^Believe me it will be un-godly loud. I have stock cats and the 3" HKS single exhaust...and it is pretty loud when I get on it.

straight mid pipes will definitely make the car LOUD!! I'm sure also pending cat back..

I also just found out Mazsport does not use RB resonators... LOL! I think its kind of BS but if its infact true, then its less of a quality then I thought... RB makes the best resonators for rotaries.... So, if Mazsport uses something else, then its not worth it

Default cat/ mid pipe

A few years ago, someone told me you could smash the guts out of the cat coverter, which would made the exhaust flow better, and didn't bring up check lights. Anyone know weather this is true or just BS??

it's true but not worth it. Just spend the money on the midpipe and store the cat.

I was going to add this to a resonated midpipe.
http://www.davesport.com/cgi-bin/davesport/DCAT100.html
This cat has 100 cpi, where as most of the other high flow cats are 300 cpi. I emailed the provider of the cat, asking him if it would withstand the heat of a rotary application. He replied that he already had a couple on rotary engine cars. I suggested this over on RX8Club and someone is testing it right now. He has about 5K miles on it and dynoed the car at 198 rwhp.

A mid-pipe is one of the best bangs for your buck to gain HP with an N/A setup. Yes it does make the car very loud but if you don't care then it's no big deal.

One resonator of a good size would remove the raspy sound but two would silence the exhaust a bit.

People have had mixed results with a CEL being triggered. The best idea is to puchase this along with an intake and an Accessport to take full advantage of the mods. The accessport can also disable the CEL's that would be reported by the mid-pipe.

Either way, the mazsport mid-pipe has a long backlog so it would be months before you would get one. I've ran the B&B midpipe for 2 years and been very happy with it. Hold onto your cat in case you need it.

For those that have a cat-back system and later upgraded with a mid-pipe, does it change the sound much or is it just louder?

MAJOR difference in sound between the MazSport mid-pipe and others.
I went from the Agency Power mid-pipe to the MazSport mid-pipe.
The AP was such a loud, high raspy sound while the MazSport has a nice, deep growl while accelerating.
At idle, you can't tell that its a mid-pipe (except the gas smell).

I've got Racing Beat midpipe and RB cat-back. It's not as loud as some of the other cat-backs by themselves. Very easy to tolerate. But here in VA I have to save the cat for inspections.

Yup... I've already had to swap back to the cat for inspection!
