Default It's finally ALIVE!!! Need some help getting a few things sorted though.

It's finally ALIVE!!!! Just got it started for the first time. See the crappy video here http://www.rotarycarclub.com/showthread.php?t=48 More to follow.

Now, it is idling around 3000rpm's and I don't know why. The air bleed screw on the bottom of the throttle body is all the way in and then backed off half a turn as Chuck Westbrook reccommends. I have disconnected the throttle and cruise cable and it does not change anything. I have backed out both idle adjustment screws on the front of the throttle body and no change. Power FC idle setting are standard. The PFC is running the base map with no modifications(I will load another map before I drive it with boost) I'm sure I have some vaccuum leaks that I will be sorting shortly, but that should only take my idle to 1600-2000 at the most according to David Jerome... who has helped me greatly throughout this whole song and dance. I prob. call him more than I do my girlfriend... haha.

The turbo manifold is also glowing red/orange. I'm assuming it's because of an extremely rich condition. I originally had my fpr set to high and I think that had something to do with it, but after I adjusted it down, it was still red. Any ideals?
Just thought I'd see what you guys thinks. Thanks.

Brent

Sounds like your timing is jacked..... esp with the glowing manifold. The richness should not cause that - if anything it will cool the charge down. Your timing could cause the glow though...

Also, are you sure you reset the PFC? Stock injectors etc?

You may want to check the voltage settings on the PFC - your PIM voltage etc.

You can also learn out the fuel using the commander and drop the fuel for the idle range to help it out a bit. The voltages for TPS, etc should give you a good indication of where it's messing up. The screws on the TB need to be adjusted as a set, not one by one. If you're going to adjust them... do them all at once.

Good Luck

Yeah, the PFC is the one out of my other car that I bought brand new and has never had anything but the base map... and confirmed it with my dataloggit the other day. I thought timing as well... but I don't know how it would be off. You can't manually adjust timing, only through the ECU, right?... and as I said, it's the stock map. I'm going to switch throttle bodies tomorrow or saturday with the TPS since I know the other one is working correctly. If it still is idling at 3200-3400, I've verified it's not the throttle body or the TPS. Thanks for the heads up on setting up the idle, but I've set a few idles before I really think that manifold is glowing because it is idling so high. We'll see Thanks for the suggestions.

Your manifold should not glow regardless.... even at and idle of 3000 rpms. To get a manifold to glow you need some extreme heat... and sending the combustion toward the exhaust manifold will do that... hence timing.

If you have a datalogit send me your map - give me the specs on your car as well, I'll take a look at it for you.

Brent,

If we are still going to meet for lunch tomorrow, just bring your map on a jump drive and I'll bring my laptop and we can go over it.

So you guys think the stock base map from Apexi could have bad timing? I've been running it in my red FD for 15,000 miles without issue. I actually drove it 500+ miles today . Can you guys expain how timing at idle is fine on one car, but not the other even though it is running the same map? I understand the timing concept, but I don't how a set map would vary at idle that much from car to car. Sorry guys, not grasping this concept. You are going to have to break it down in barney terms for me I don't have the map handy, but I can email it to you this weekend. Dhalen, all my mods are in my build thread with the link posted in the first post. Thanks again guys.

Dan, I'm still in for lunch tomorrow. We have a ceremony tomorrow casing the unit colors at 10. So I should be in your neighborhood around 12:30 I would think, but I'll give you a call when I'm leaving Clarksville. BTW, I also picked up Rotary Extreme's 99spec Oil Cooler duct today. I'll bring it with the other ones tomorrow to compare.

Ok, I took the throttle body(complete w/ TPS) out of my red car and put it. It did not change anything. I redid some vacuum lines and was able to get the idle down to 2850rpm. I'm going to spray some more carb. cleaner and see if I can't find a leak, but any leak that is that big I should be able to hear. I also log a map at idle. I'm going to send it to Chadwick and Dhalen. Anyone else want to take a look?

Found it!! Now it is idling right around 1100rpm's. I had a spot on the corner of my UIM where it meets the UIM to LIM gasket that wasn't quite sealing. I grinded it down flat and that sealed it right off. Thanks to Dan Chadwick for all the pointers.

Also, now that the idle has come down, I haven't had any glowing manifold issues.
