Flush Your Trans! DIY..

I'm sure most of you probably do your own service, but I thought I'd snap some pics of how to drain the 6spd MT for your RX8 in case you haven't done it yet or are concerned about any special procedures.

This is by far (even against FCs and FBs) the easiest trans I've had to flush!

1. Jack the car up and support it so that the car is LEVEL.
2. Get under the car and observe the driver's side of the transmission.
3. You will see the fill plug, and the drain plug (see pic). They are both 24mm.
4. Be sure to remove the fill plug first in case you round it off, at least then you know you have fluid in the trans and aren't stranded!
5. Keep track of the crush washers as they are different on each plug.
6. Once the fill plug is removed, you can pull the drain plug and catch the old fluid.
7. Once all the fluid is drained, clean the plug, washer and trans surface before replacing the drain nut.
7. Using a siphon kit (or pump of your choice). Fill the trans back up with 2 qts of your choice of fluid. I used RedLine MT90. My siphon was $5 from Harbor Freight and the best investment I've made for this kind of work!
8. Fill until fluid starts dripping from the fill hole.
9. Clean the fill nut, crush washer and trans surface.

10. Thats it! EASY...

Some things to note:
- the fill plug and drain plug are different - and so are their crush washers. The drain nut is magnetic, be sure to clean it of any debri before placing back in the transmission.
- You should probably replace the crush washers. The dealership has them. I reused mine as they seem to be in good condition, but keep an eye on it and just as any good rule in auto care PAY ATTENTION to oil drops in your driveway!
