Default Intake tract help

Hi All,

Basically, I need help trying to flesh out ideas on what to do about connecting my throttle body to the AFM.

Here's the thing: I built an engine for my Gen II and I'm trying to get it running now. It's an N/A setup based on a T2 block so (obviously) the throttle opening is on the opposite side of the engine bay.

I got it fired a few times now, but I haven't been able to get it to actually run yet. I had a temporary intake in place (pronounced ghetto-rigged) just to connect the AFM, but considering that I have 95% of the vacuum leaks situated now, I'm thinking that my bullshit intake pipe setup is keeping the car from at least responding to any throttle inputs at this point.

This is "officially" my first Gen II, so I'm still learning. I need ideas from more experienced heads on this because I'm running out. I don't mind putting in the time and effort (Lord knows I don't), but time is becoming an issue for my moving the car from where it is, so I will accept any help I can get.

My latest plan is to see if I can find some intercooler piping to make the intake tract and cut the harness for the AFM and move everything to the driver's side. Is there any technical reason not to do it that way?

Also, are there any links/posts with setups like this? So far, all the people I've seen posting with normally aspirated T2-based engines run standalones. Are there any using the stock ECU?

You could use the N/A intake. You'd have to port match the LIM to the TII, but not terribly difficult.

oh yeah, i should mention that slight, short-sighted miscalculation on my part. yeah, i have a few N/A intake setups (including the one that came on the car when i bought it) and i know i can use it, but dickhead (me) already took all my excess parts home (FL) in May. it would be the best solution simply because i could use all the stock piping and not have to worry about lengths and diameters, but i just don't have the parts here with me (NY) right now.

As long as the MAF is level there shouldn't be an issue. It would presumably be a lot easier if the PS, AC, and battery weren't over there. You'll also probably just be sucking in hot engine bay air without a box or cutting somewhere to get fresh air. This isn't the end of the world, but not a plus.

well, thanks for your input. i really appreciate it. by the way, i didn't realize that it had to sit level, so i thank you for that tidbit. that, in itself, could be a part of my woes right now because i kind of have it sitting between the alternator and water pump - definitely not level. i was also picturing it mounted sideways off the shock tower in my latest vision of it, so now i need to revise that, too.

as for the the P/S and A/C, the car is not equipped with power streering and i've temporarily removed the air conditioning, so i'm all-a-go there. i'm going to see if i can get it done without relocating the battery.

also i'm not fazed by the hot air issue because none of this is permanent. my single focus is to get this thing running so i can take it home, at which point i will likely be partially disassembling the whole car to start building it right. for now i just need it to be "relaible enough" to make the journey.

Maybe I should clarify as I assumed you have an S4. The S4 has to sit level or there could be issues, I believe (someone correct me on this), the S5 can sit however you want it to.
