possible stock stereo issue?
anyone know of any malfunctions with the stock stereo?
i can turn it on, the antenna comes up but no stations play. the tape player works but most of the time not very loud. played normal for a couple minutes, then the sound diminished to barely being heard, the speakers cracked when i turned it up and down. on the way home from a 2 hour trip where the car ran fine, no alt warning light~ we tried to listen to a tape. it played normal for a minute then the sound went away but i forgot to shut it off and kept driving. when we stopped for petro, she wouldn't start back. hardly enough juice to power the dash lights. got a jump and drove home. the battery was too hot to touch and is trashed=won't take a charge. it's an optima. summit sent out a replacement under the warranty, but I don't want to ruin another optima battery. i put a regular battery in the car and drove it (without turning stereo on) no problems, & it's right on by the multimeter. anyone heard or know of issues with the factory radios causing electrical problems? any ideas? Thanks in advance.. I'm totally ignorant on this.

Time to pull out the manuals and start checking.
I had a radio receiver failure a few years ago. The FM section of it actually burned up. Smelt smoke and then FM stopped working. AM still worked. I replaced the unit in the center dash. |
