Default Update on my single turbo R1

whats up everyone, i am still pretty new to this forum and i havent been posting much. been real busy with college/work, etc. however, i finally have some updated pictures of my FD. first, a little before and after.

Before. you got mufflers used for intercooler pipes and the B.O.V on the wrong side. courtesy of the previous owner's builder.

After. real intercooler pipes, BOV on correct side, new turbo from Precision, new pulleys on alternator/water pump.old pulleys will be repainted to make it cleaner soon. ignore the copper tubing, we used it to just have wastegate plugged in for test runs. dont want to be out there pushin 30lbs when it can only 12-14 right? old wastegate line was destroyed from severe heat. AIT is on IC pipe for now, going to be replaced with the meth injection nozzle. heat wrap applied to the downpipe as well to keep engine bay temps cooler. also have LS2 coils from Haltech going in soon.

i also purchased upgrades for my fuel system from KGparts.com. it came with:

list of parts:
1680cc secondaries
secondary fuel rail
SS braided lines + fittings
Aeromotive FPR + Gauge
primary fuel rail adapter
clips for the secondaries

i also got the Alky Control meth injection kit.unfortunately i didnt get to take pics of it since we got it stashed in my buddy's office at the shop. i do however have a picture of my fuel cell. its a 4 gallon.

my old turbo that was blown last august. the damage was horrendous and it also claimed my old B.O.V in the carnage.

my new turbo. T4 .81 A/R 62 trim billet aluminum. small pic cuz i took pic with my cam phone which sucks.

thats all i have for now, hope you all enjoy looking at a ratrod slowly becoming a presentable and efficient FD R1. its been quite a journey with this car for the past 2yrs ive owned it. soon, i will be putting this on the dyno after we get it boosting safely. i will of course post up the numbers and hopefully a video for all to see

after that is finished...its paint job time!

a minor update:

-methanol injection kit is installed. the work done for that has been great. the SS braided lines are hidden quite well underneath the car and they are kept away from the starter. dont want that to rub together now do we? a fire could ensue.

we havent tested the system yet because im awaiting a GM 3 bar map sensor unit. the alkycontrol kit requires this piece so it can run. my stand alone ECU the haltech PS1k only has an internal map sensor and that is not sufficient. more information to come as well as pictures...

not sure what you mean by muffler for intercooler piping? do you mean steel piping? not necessarily the wrong stuff for the job not everyone has the required equipment to do aluminum or the desire to pay for it from a speed shop. Also the BOV on the wrong side?? maybe for you yes but the location of the BOV has alot to do with the design of a kit it wasent wrong by any means maybe just not what you wanted which is why you changed it. i fact there are those that will argue against even using a BOV it all depends on te use and design of the kit.

BUT it does look much more profesional now like it will actually live lol looked pretty decrepid before. nice project good luck.

muffler for intercooler piping means exactly that. previous owner's builders chopped up exhaust piping and welded them together. yeah its cheap, but that was unacceptable to me. a car like the RX-7 that carries a legacy deserves better than that!

as for the BOV i was told that physics wise its better to put it on the cold side of the intercooler piping rather than hotside. its closer to the throttle body, that way when it slams shut the BOV will open faster due to air pressurizing. its a debate-able topic indeed, so for me... its the right way. ive seen guys run them on the hot side as well, but thats their thing. i know it works great between the IC and throttlebody

i also appreciate your compliment btw, before this thing looked like it would explode after 1 good run lol. anyway, more to come soon.

the previous owner was a guy who lived up in houston. he knew what he wanted, but the execution of it all was disgusting as you all saw. this led to problems, which led to him selling the car (thats my assumption anyway).it had all around shoddy craftsmanship down to the wiring and engine "rebuild". ill show old intake "streetport" pic they gave it later on.

ive owned this car for 3 years. 2 of those have been spent on slowly resurrecting this beast back to its former glory. indeed its in good hands now, its going to be acting accordingly very soon. once everything is finalized its time for the tuning session as well as dyno day! im expecting this in 2 weeks.

thanks for reading fellas

edit: im anxious to get out there. i look forward to jamming out to iron maiden and dropping the hammer on the highway.

just thought i would post some more pics for you all. some are old, some are new. this pic is of the old gauges that came with the car. the AFR one was actually defunct as it always read "rich".

new gauges on the pillar now. i got prosport gauges just for now, when i have more money to throw away ill get Defi's. excuse the mess, my driver's door needs repair, i also have a powerdex AFR gauge on top of steering column. my air freshener is totally metal lol. the gauge cluster's hood also needed repair, i just glued it back together for the time being, i will be getting a new one courtesy of our community's living legend...Ray Crowe! center console plastic also needs refinishing, the dash aint so bad luckily. that old kenwood stereo needs to go, but audio is my last priority.yes, it still works! the funny thing about it is, the trebel is kinda high. when i pull up next to a ricer blasting their reggaeton, it really pisses them off when i crank it up with some good heavy metal or classic rock since it cuts right through lol.

this is the old intake "street port" that previous owner's builder gave him. we liken this job to giving the grinder to a kindergartner and letting them have at it. those black specs you see were from the rubber buttons used with the apex seals. they were scattered all over the housings. ugh.

this is how the new actual street port looks now inside my engine. this picture was the starting phase of it, my rotary specialist/friend hadnt finished yet. unfortunately, i wasnt able to take a photo of the completed porting he did but know that he did a great job! sorry for the blur, at the time i was giddy like a school girl and i leaned in too close.

now for a few exteriors. i took these off my album on this site, never know if ppl have seen them or not. anyway the top of the car has sun damaged paint. i will be keeping it vintage red. also the bumper is missing the R1 lip, but ill get that later when i begin the appearance phase of my project.

the damage extends all the way to the wing, i seriously cant wait to get this car painted!

my favorite pic ive taken thus far with my FD. very sexy right here! i plan to get more of these types of shots later when i get it back

more to come, and the anticipation keeps on risin...

Update: so much time has passed, about a little more than a month now. so far the tune session i have coming up will be scheduled for next week.

things that have occurred:
-we've installed the haltech LS2 direct fire coils! i cant wait to see the effects its going to have. i originally was going to use an HK$ twinpower but why the hell should i spend all that cash? get some american balls instead!

-the fuel cell in my trunk will be mounted with a metal tray and a brace. atm, we have it being held in place by wooden blocks for the time being. we have it plugged into the meth system so we didnt want it sliding all over the place.

-the meth kit has been tested, it is working nicely! shoulda heard the pressure from the meth shooting into the soda can we used as a recepticle. we had some gallows humor with that, sayin what would happen if we shot our eyes with meth (of course we know, but you know how us guys can get over a smoke break).

-my car was waaaaaaay too slammed with my stance GR+ coilovers. we raised it up a bit. its sort of the same height as the previous photos. we couldnt even turn the wheel before we raised it. many obscenities were shouted as we attempted to remove the messed up bolts on the rear strut towers for installation of the coilvers. even more were uttered when the only 14 size socket managed to fall into a crack, thus leading me to take apart the interior behind the driver's seat to get it out.

anyway that is all i have for now. more information to come as well as more pictures with the new stuff thats been installed. college stuff kept me really busy but i am done for the time being. we're on the home stretch gentlemen, thanks for reading
