GSL-SE Engine identification question

I have an 84' gsl-se I bought from the original owner a year ago, It came with receipts for everything including a rebuild by the dealer 30k miles ago, I had the exhaust off to fix a broken stud and noticed it has the bolt holes on the center iron for an engine mount that are the same as what should be there on an s4 block- my question is, should the gsl-se have those? i can't find that info anywhere but i was curious whether they just put in an s4 block instead of rebuilding or those bolt holes are just always there

If you have bolt holes on the center iron chances are its a S4 and they just swapped out the oil pan and front cover with a S3 (GSL-SE). Another way to tell would be to look at the top of the center iron for an EGR (exhaust recirculation valve), If it has one of these chances are its a S4. Do you have any pics of the block that might help Identify it?

I can take some, but it doesn't have the egr on there or blocked off as far as i've noticed, though i've only had the upper intake off once and all the stock vacuum lines and rats nest are there- the guy I got it from was the original owner and he took pride in it if it is an s4 engine it was done at the dealers haha

SE engines have bolt holes on the side of the center iron, but the area is raised a bit.
You say you had the exhaust off. does it have anything in the middle of the exhaust ports? The S4/S5 NA exhaust ports have "diffusers" in the middle of them, where the SE ports are open.

Yeah, that raised area with the bolt holes makes it more difficult to install a stock turbo manifold on the SE 6P 13B compared to a S4/S5 6P. The SE motor needs a spacer where the later engines don't.
