Default Need help diagnosing noise

Hi all, first post here. Will post in about me forum this evening, hoping to get some knowledgeable feedback and diagnosis here, other forums have proven somewhat lacking in knowledgeable people 😣

http://youtu.be/Z0OAJ_nr51I

So my Rx 8 has this knocking noise, about 1/3rd of engine revs at any time. Becomes quiter as revs increase, no surprise there.

The clutch is slipping, as I recently brought it I have no more info really. New clutch arriving today due to fit tomorrow.

Thoughts on this just being the failing clutch? I have suspicions but want to offer this up as a blind post.

Hoping to hear back from some experienced rotary heads!

Regards

Charlie

Does the noise change on accel vs decel when revving?

Is the noise completely RPM based? or does it lag behind the RPMs a bit?

Does the noise change when you depress the clutch pedal?

I saw you put your finger on the SSV actuator, which is a common-ish issue that you may have seen on youtube vids. Have you been able to move the actuator to determine that isn't the culprit?

its linear to RPM, so I feel its something rotational orientated - no it does not lag behind.

No the noise does not change with clutch pedal - I understand there are various clutch components that disengage on clutch press, does the throw out bearing still sit between the drive shaft and the input shaft?

the linkage on the SSV is sound and the linkage is free moving.

thanks

Personally I would get the clutch fixed and go from there. The throw out bearing fits around the input shaft and if it's bad enough it could be causing the noise or it may be loose pressure plate bolts. Eliminate anything in the clutch assembly first since you know that you need to do it anyway.
