The rough correlation between the RMS and Ra is around 11%. So our measurements for the stock plate would roughly be 13 RMS.

They look to good to be as bad as your measurement would suggest.
Just got in to work, re-cheeked the plates, got a RMS of 12. I asked the night shift guy to do it for me, he checked the back side of the rear plate ...

O well....

your exhaust port needs to be beveled. buddy you need to make sure all sharp edges are beveled.. u need a 2mm bevel. gets me upset to still see ports like this.

be open to advice. just because you run this port like this, doesn't make it right. Brian (BDC Motorsports) also learned the hard way. He ran similar ports to you. why do you think Mazda runs a 2mm bevel on the factory exhaust port on rotor housings? plain and simple to protect the apex seal when the apex seal is closing the exhaust port. I wrote a thread at nopistons with pictures about this. So relax open your ears and learn.. we never stop learning..

and yes it brings issues. the apex seal starts to loose it's radius from smashing on that sharp edge you leave behind.

looks like you ran to the shop and ported the bevel in.. next time. do the bevel all the way around the outer edge of the port. 360 degrees. but you get the point.

from the pics it looks like you did not bevel the edges, a very critical point when a rotor housing is ported. it seems like you did. the moral of the story was made. everyone needs to port the bevel in after a rotor housing is ported. let's keep it civil. and don't want to ruin your thread, but members need to know the importance of a beveled exhaust port.

Can this service be applied to plates that have been bridgeported?

Thank you sir for your good attitude (diffusing the tense situation) and your concern for the community.

Each has their own take on port geometry - there are a lot of things that are dependant on power goals, etc. Some things are universal to all porting jobs, and Judge_ITO is right about the bevel (especially on the trailing edge of the port). The bevel also helps the flow as the sharp edge will create turbulence.

This nitriding process is a good service to the community.
