A coolent fill tip I haven't seen anyone mention. Leave the hose off the wax pellet. Fill until water flows out. You should only need to add a pint or two after that. Another trick, jack the nose in the air as high as you can. Getting the top of the radiator higher than the wax pellet really helps. Usually only need 1 or two heat cylces.
And of course don't start the car until you know you have nearly two gallons in it.
Don't feel bad many have been caught by that.
