Just had one in last week did the same thing except his wouldn't work even after sitting.
All electronic controls and wiring tested good. Mazda's end of diagnosis, bad motor/motors. I couldn't believe two motors to go bad at the same time. Used the 2oz hammer tap. Motors started to work intermittently. Was able to get them both to work, but don’t know how long that fix will last.
My conclusion, internal relays sticking or dirt armatures. He wasn't up for me to take them apart and check out the relays.
His motor is making bubbles enough for me to know that it probably will not make it through another Tucson summer if driven daily. He is just going to drive it till it drops then get rid of it. (only paid 3600 for it 3 year ago)
None of my people have had any problems with their tops so haven't had the need to go deep into them. (most all are original owners) This was the first that has any problem.
I am sure someone out there has taken the motor assemblies apart and knows if the relays can be replaced or be able to install new brushes .
