Carbed S5 I noticed on CL.
http://chambana.craigslist.org/cto/993031121.html
Ok, so I noticed this car on CL. what do you guys think? It was originally built by a guy who drag raced it, who then sold it to another person, who in turn gave it to his nephew when the clutch went out on it. Both the uncle and nephew have not owned the car for that long, and have only added a muffler to it because it it EFFIN LOUD! They dont know a whole lot, but know enough to not destroy it, such as the fact that you need to add premix to the gas, and to let the car fully warm up when you drive it. Unfortunately, the original builder could not be contacted, but the car seems to have been built with good intentions, sporting a full autometer gauge cluster, as well as a nice radiator and electric fan. When we started it up, it did not smoke hardly at all, and the guy selling it also mentioned that he has started the engine and let it run untill the car warms up. The engine also has evidence of having been rebuilt, as well as thought being put into the carb setup. However, this is the thing that scares me... The car has a carburated setup, with full exhaust, and idles at around 3,000rpm. It seems to rev ok, with some slight roughness, but I kinda expect it out of this setup. The way it's controlled is with an FPR (fuel press gauge under hood) and twin holley carbs. Now, I dont know SHIT about carbs, and am wondering if it's possible to set the car so that it idles lower, yet still drives fine? Is there a way to tune this mofo w/o a dyno, and a wideband? Thing is, because the contact info of the original builder was lost, I have no idea about the engine, maybe it was bridge ported, is bulletproof, and can rev to the stratosphere, or maybe it's just a stock port carb setup they could not get to idle at lower rpm? My friend wanted me to ask people around, because he wanted to buy it. Currently he has an 86gxl, but he wants a better car. So, anyone here have experience with a tuned carb setup? The price is listed as 1500, but we managed to get the guy down to 1200. Personally, I think that for this money, i would get the car, part out the carb setup, and then just go turbo with it, but my friend is looking for an actual car, not a project that will sit on jackstands for a year or two...

sounds like the carb setup is a way off from "tuned"

256:1 premix with a disabled OMP? That doesn't bode well...

A local guy, FCZach (also owns the Suzuki RE-5) has a carb set up on his FC. Maybe PM him for more info.

it might be worth trying to run the carb setup. But like i said, it sounds way out of whack. But possibly good tuning could solve the majority of the issues.

hmm, well I was hoping there would be more old school people around, but I guess I will have to keep looking, lol.
We might just buy it, fix the clutch, and resell.
