Custom harnesses available
We've built a few custom harnesses that we've shipped to customers for them to install. We can terminate all of the underhood connections and usually only leave the power connections for the ECU and fuel pump for the customer to finish. The cost starts at $300 for an FC harness if the ECU flying lead kit is purchased from us at the same time. FD harnesses are more complex and start at $400 for a single turbo harness. We use Raychem heat shrink and braided nylon sheath. All butt connections are soldered and double heat shrunk. Terminals are properly crimped. Below are some pics of a harness built for an FD using an Electromotive Tec3r.

As in using through wall bulkhead connectors? Such as this? Can do. Or are you referring to simply using something higher quality than the weatherpacks?

nah you got it right. How much would getting those installed into a harness cost? And would you be able to provide the harness with the engine terminators still uncrimped (so the user may be able to cut to length and hook up/run the wires how they need) on a stock style connections (both underhood and ecu)?

So basically you'd want a flying lead harness cut in the middle and a bulkhead installed? Can do that no problem. I would need to get some details on exactly what wires you want to pass through and what you want to stay inside the cabin. That would dictate cost of the connector and, to a large extent, the overall cost of assembly. Email me with as much info on what you're wanting and we'll work it out. ludwigmotorsports@insightbb.com

Chris,
Although not entirely related to you BUILDING harnesses, can yuo still source the connectors and pins for air temp/coolant temp/TPS/MAP (map and fuel injectors I can still find........) etc.? I'm right into the TECgt harness, but can't seem to find the connectors I used when I did the E6X harness. If I ahve to buy the sensor pack to get them, I guess so be it, but if you've got a source I'd gladly pony up ![]() (may pony up for you to get me the sensor pack anyways ![]() PM me, or post back here - thanks!! |

This is some cool shit! And I love the idea about the cannon plugs, I thought about that a while back, I'm glad someone is doing it cause I'm too damn lazy haha. I may be interested in something like this, even though I got a brand new wiring harness already.
What would be cool is having everything go to just one or two cannonplugs in the engine bay, nice and clean, easy install and removal. |

Can you get access to the stock connectors?

what would you recommend for connection between exsisting stock connections (excluding injector clips) in the engine bay and in the cabin? Crimp and heat shrink, crimp, solder, and heat shrink, solder and heat shrink?
For reference, I have an RTek 2.1 and will be doing a turbo 6-port with deleted emissions (6 port will still be functioning via boost control solenoid valve ![]() Would including stock style connections for the injecotrs, water temp, and the other thing that escapes my mind at the moment (helps control idle depending on water temp, it's a cylinder on the back side of the intake with a similar style connection as the injectors though they come with an off centered key) be possible?

In this case, if I have to use stock pigtails, I like to solder the joint and cover it in heat shrink. It's best to have several inches of pigtail. You don't want a solder joint right at the connector. It might be better for you to just start with a new stock harness. What I deal with is custom harnesses for aftermarket engine management. So starting out you're dealing with alternate components...everything is new. I've worked with enough stock harnesses to know they're one big failure (really worse, several small failures) waiting to happen. Finding enough good pigtails out a worn stock harness will be a chore. Starting with a fresh harness will ensure you a get a reliable finished product. It's easy enough to eliminate the circuits not being used to tidy of the harness. Hate to see you invest time and money in something that's failure prone.

I understand your building custom harnesses and think it will work fine, especially if the only thing I would need would be a certain number of wires passing through the cannon plug and a certain amount of feet on either end. Given just that (wires and the cannon plug--lets say anywhere from 30-40 wires passed through the cannon plug)how much would the cost be? I understand cannon plugs can be rather expensive as are the tools for it. so for the harness like I just described above how much would it cost?

So, as an estimate, about $400 for the labor and parts plus the cost of the bulkhead connector.
