HOW TO: wire reverse lights for auto -> manual swap
Just PMed someone about this and didn't see any info here on it, so I shall add to the knowledge here. It's been a while since I personally did the auto -> manual swap, so i'm not up on all that is needed in the swap right now (small little things.) Anyway, here is a quick write up on how to wire up the reverse lights and locations of speedo sensor and back up light switch. I will add pictures of the locations this evening. I will also try to add more pictures of the various plugs as I can get them (from the guy who's doing the swap right now.)
This write up is for using the auto emissions harness with a manual swap. if you swap out your emissions harness, you don't need to read any further. well, here we go: driver and passenger sides are based off US car... (Left hand drive...) The manual speedo hole is: on the passenger side of the transmission, a little forward of the shifter. ** picture tonight ** the back up light sensor is on the drivers side of the transmission, further back than speed sensor, below shifter. ** picture tonight ** now for wiring of the reverse lights: the manual car gets the signal from the sensor on the transmission, the auto gets the signal from the inhibitor switch plugged into the transmission. both of these connect back to the dash harness by way of the X-14 connector located in the passenger side kick panel. X-14 is a white plug with several wires. To get the backup light sensor to replace the inhibitor switch, you want to connect the two wires as such: backup sensor -> EM harness (inhibitor switch plug): G/Y -> Y/L Y/R -> BR/B wire colors: G/Y = green with yellow stripe Y/L = yellow with blue stripe Y/R = yellow with red stripe BR/B = brown with black stripe the two pictures are showing the plugs from the harness side (the wires going INTO the back side of the plug) ** actual pictures as i can get them ** back up sensor from manual transmission: inhibitor switch plug (from emissions harness into transmission):
