What can I pass emissions with?
Greetings,
I have my motor apart on a bench at work. The question is: what can I do and still pass emissions? I was hoping to do emissions removal per RR and possibly DIY porting. I live in Cherokee county in Georgia. Here is what we have to pass. All 1995 and older model year vehicles will receive a four-part inspection: * A visual inspection of the catalytic converter to check for tampering or removal. * ASM2 or Accelerated Simulation Mode Test - A dual-mode test including a 25/25 test = 25 percent load at 25 MPH and a 50/15 test = 50 percent load at 15 MPH. * A tailpipe exhaust emission test. * A fuel cap inspection to check for adequate seal. The first and last are the easy ones. It's those darn middle ones that will probably get me. Thanks in advance.

Run two cats and use either the stock air pump, or an electric one from a Corvette, or an Envoy/Trailblazer.
Good luck!

if it's a turbo, disconnect the wastegate rod. Its real easy, just a little clip. I did it with the turbo installed. This will keep them off the boost.
I ran the air pump right to the cat. http://87rx7.blogspot.com/2007/06/ho...t-my-wire.html |

im guessing the middle test is to keep people from running too retarded timing??
i've passed with: '87 n/a - no emissions, one aftermarket cat fed with air from an air pump, retarded timing, and 5 bottles of ISOHEET on 1/4 tank, passed with 212 out of possible 220 HC ppm, and the CO were close too '89 n/a - stock motor, emissions, no cat (had a gutted cat on there when I bought it. I didn't even know it was gutted. Maybe thats why it was so loud), passed with 8 PPM and only a few CO. 7s are weird...

Anyone know if I can take any of the solenoids and stuff off? What I am trying to do is clean up the engine bay. I plan on running a cat, but don't want the others.
Also anyone able to pass with any porting?

you can still pass with engine porting just as long as the air pump and cat are working correctly you will be fine.

but you could always bolt up a stock mani and gutted pre-cats and pass fine. I have a stock mani, as well as the 2 small pre-cats for sale if you need them btw.

i have an 86 N/A with no emissions components and a racing beat true dual exhaust and pine-apple racing 5th and 6th port sleaves and i ran a practice emissions test: HC 668ppm NOx were very low due to the richness. surprisingly CO and CO2 were close but still failed.
cats and air pumps are the key |

Wow - go HC's!! I know that I have to get under 150 HC's. I don't remember the other stuff. Still haven't had time to get that info.
