Default opinions about magnetic oil drain plugs

Just what the title says has anybody tried them? Worth it or not?

Yes. Honestly, they certainly couldn't hurt unless they come apart or fall out.

I have one.

It does collect metal debris on it. When I did the first oil change on it when I had the car I got a big old blob of oil and metal that was then promptly wiped on a rag and thrown away. The plug has been cleaner ever since.

umm, i could have sworn that you can get one at advanced auto...

I did hear that it's not 100% effective because it cant attract aluminum bits, but I think that it's WAY better than having no protection at all!

(like, primer looks ugly and still absorbs water, but it's more protection then just leaving the metal bare... ya dig?)

Any parts store really. I know summit sells a magnet that hooks up on the oil filter (something else to consider).

Just the plug is enough, methinks- no need for another magnet. Most filters do a good job filtering stuff anyway.

Thanks for the advice, everyone.
