NASA vs. SCCA
Well i am looking to join so i can finally start getting in to some events. But which is a better choice? I know NASA does a lot with the mid-ohio and the like, but the SCCA is just huge and covers everything. Can i register with both? Do they have qualms with NASA and SCCA stickers on a car?

It's definitely worth it to join NASA, the discounts and free subscription to Grassroots Motorsports magazine are worth the annual fee alone.
And if you are trying to get into racing or just lapping some of the finest tracks around NASA is a great way to go. SCCA = Wine and cheese and whiners NASA = Beer and pizza and logical rules. |

I really like how NASA classes their cars to keep it competitive. It's based on the point system that you adjust up or down depending on the modification.

NASA is probably more user friendly mostly because their rules aren't as strick. But over the years I see them changing. You can run anything from AutoX to TT's with a street car, where in the SCCA you will need safety equipment for most TTs. They both have their advantages. I personally like the way NASA class rules are but I'm more active in SCCA because the region is local to where I'm at.
I'd just join both, NASA's memberships aren't but $40ish a year.

In NASA Norcal ar the least, we'll pass your car through tech if you have SCCA stickers on it as long as you cover them up with tape. But you'll gain 25 hp if you take the stickers off. Seriously.
Having said that, I'd advise you to go and get the NASA competition license, and then use that for the SCCA events as well as the NASA ones. SCCA recently started accepting our licenses, but afaik, we don't accept SCCA ones. |
