To me it almost sounds like a crank sensor issue.

I'd check the wiring over and make sure there's no loose connections. Pay clsoe attention to the exposed wires where they enter the rubber grommet in the CAS, I've seen a few as of late with broken insulation there. No crank signal would certainly mean no start.

If the trailing coil was burnt, you'd have no tach, but it should still run it would just be a little sluggish and down on power. Although its a possibility, so you could swap another on since its simple and would rule out one option.
