Neg effects from removing rear speaker towers?

So Im finally getting around to installing the rear sway bar I got with my car. Obviously Im going to need to either drill some holes in the speaker towers, or remove them completely. Will there be any negative effects from removing the metal from above where the shock bolts up to it? I dont have any rear speakers mounted, nor do I see putting any there in the near future so thats not a worry, but will it effect the chassis at all?

That thin sheet metal has almost zero support in those positions.

They are just spot welded at the base. We've drilled them out and remove the whole tower on race cars before with no negative effects. If you're going to bolt on a rear tower bar, you're already ahead of the game. -Ted |
