EGT: how high does it need to log
So i bought a good open tip probe and an inexpensive signal conditioner wich uses any k-type probe and sends out a 5v signal.
It sends out 5v when the temp is at 990C/1800F, is that high enough to log? The probes have operating temp from -100C to 1300C, so they should be good enough. |

990 deg C is no where near high enough. If you are using the power hard and often in 4th gear and 5th gear it will go over 1100deg C in regular basis. My thread on Aquamist site talks extensively on the life of open tip probes, and also lots of information on temperatures logged on all kinds of tests too.

Should probably mention that it's in an NA.
Won't be using the power that hard, not in 4 or 5 gear anyway. It's my dd, so it's only driven hard when i'm on trackdays a few days a year. Tought the closed tip probes where to sluggish. |

NA's still run high EGT, same levels especially cause you are running near 0.9 Lambda for high power so the EGT will be high, if not higher than on turbo! I have tested them on engine dyno's and the pipes become translucent and you can see the gas flowing through them! so very very hot. All peripheral and bridge ports will run 1000deg C easy.
