Just because im lazy

So I need to put an exhaust on my 83 LE! I don't want anything to loud the GSL-SE has 2.5" from the stock manifold back to a Magnaflow with a high flow cat thrown in the mix. Its pretty loud any one at DGRR would agree im sure! I would throw a high dollar RB cat-back or the slightly cheaper RX7.COM unit but I really dont want to shell out that kinda of cash. I have under a 1000 to spend and need to redo my fuel set up as well -10AN and fittings damn there big money. So any ideas any one with a exhaust that sounds good that didnt cost a kidney or a testicle??

Well...

I had a very inexpensive.. wait.. scratch that.

I had a road race header from Racing beat, and two 2" pipes back 118" collected into a 3", and then into a Edlebrock RPM Performer 3" in and out ceramic packed muffler. It was... loudish.. 3" dump, and um yeah it was not quiet.

Best friend bought the car, and wanted it quiet. So he bought the long collected Racing Beat Street port exhaust with the pre-cilencers, and the long collected design.

It was exxxxxspensive.

On the dyno it made 1 less HP, but 1 mor Ft LB of torque. Or vice Versa.. doesnt matter.

The thing is.. the car was sooo quiet I couldnt hear the engine running other than the noise fromt eh engine compartment!!

Now fast forward 3 years later, and I have removed the pre-silencers to try to make it loud enough to hear with a head sock and helmet on. And its NO LOUDER!!!

Nice tone. Quiet idle, and a slight growl at WOT.

My suggestion if you like it quiet.. RB roadrace header, two long pipes going back into a STOCK Racingbeat Muffler. That thing will purr, and make good power.

Listen to it on the video of the gap I made last year. www.youtube.com\spinracing

The full SP exhaust from RB is perfect. Best exhaust for an FB, hands down. Pay the money. Save up and wait if you have to, but it's worth every cent.

RB's long-primary "streetport" system is awesome. For a somewhat cheaper alternative, MosesX605 on the other forum used a collected RB header to a RB presilencer to a Magnaflow 4" round to a Borla Turbo XS (they now sell them as "ProXS"). It is quiet and sounds very nice, yet it's all straight-through.

The real trick is the RB muffler section. I've run FBs with no muffler, with fart can and then with the RB and the RB def does an excellent job of quieting down the exhaust. The same car had road race headers and an old-school RB presilencer from back in the 80s.

One320fc already has the SP 12A RB headers, so really it just needs the RB catback and highflo cat (we have visual inspections here in VA)...

Go w/ your original plan man... get the RP catback and universal hi-flo and get it all welded it up.. its the cheapest and probably best performance/sound quality you're going to get.

Then I found this also its cost a little more and is going to be a little louder then the RB but I think it would look good under the rear of the FB...I can get it for about 170.00

I have to agree that the SP system from RB is awesome, but also expensive. Maybe you can find a used one, or piece together a used setup to save some dough.
I've bought extra flanges to have straight pipes made to replace the silencer section, just for the hell of it.
Who makes that muffler? ^^ Is it rotary specific? I wonder how well it would hold up over time if it's not.

its a magnaflow unit just a universal muffler..but its packing material is the same as the RB units. So I think it should hold up some what well

170 shipped? Then you have to consider the price of having the custom piping bent/welded at an exhaust shop which will probably run you close to what the RB would cost anyway. Just a thought... also, you'd want mandrel bends which are extra as CESCO and other places use crush bends as a standard.

I do agree it would look good, but for the price, dunno...
