Have four-link, will travel.
So the Rally Rx7 has about the worst rear suspension travel. At my measure, i can muster a full range of about 5" overall. And 1.9" upwards from rest. My 1980 Celica GT had greater articulation and was also a predictable car and fun to drive hard and fast, even with 75hp. Heck without the sway bar, the chassis could almost be 30 degrees with both tires planted.
So then, my search is to get better travel, and i think this is going to result in scrapping the entire rear setup and start over. For starters, the axle is weak. This will be replace with a Volvo Dana 30 in 5 lug. for locating, i might reuse the bottom links but ive considered running a much longer link. Extending up the central support beam. This would be similiar for the top, with the top having adjustment points. This project doesnt get to start in full for a few more months, but i plan on formulating ideas from here on out.

Have you looked at Granny's torque arm setup? Does away with the upper arms entirely.

its certainly interesting, although i would not want to use an 8.8 for a few reasons. Im curious about its durability and articulation. i wonder how it pivots on the other plane...

The plus for a good torque arm is the articulation. I'm not convinced that the Granny's kit is a good as it could be. But the idea is sound and, if built properly, should articulate better than a 4-link.

i found myself some information on the Rod Millen rx7, and and go that route for cheap. Essentially, im going to reuse the lower links. Ditch the uppers, but reuse the mounts on the rx7 axle. Run new links right through the wheel wells. Links are about 14 each, plus heims (also about 14 each...). Simple rubber shift boot for the past through. Mounts are just metal and will have adjustments. Ill pass the adjustments off the escort 1600 prep manuals.

Sounds nice. How is the articulation with the 4-link? Take lots of pics. Interested in what you're looking at doing.

im certain ill document the whole ordeal. Its also going to a coilover rear at the same time. Looking at it though, its seems simple.
