Default 12A to 13B Twin Turbo Swap

Hey everyone, sorry for not posting in a while. Life outside the Navy is very time consuming, especially when working at a low paying job. >.<

Anyways, a general question I have. I'm looking at a website that offers "supposedly" an entire FD engine, transmission, and everything else for around $1700. The website lists the following as parts of the package:

Block
Twin Turbo
Intake Manifold
Sensors
Exhaust Manifold
Fuel Rail
Injectors
Throttle Body
Alternator
Power Steering Pump
Wiring Harness
ECU
5 Speed RWD Transmission

Beyond this, what else should I be looking to replace / upgrade on my FB to handle all of this power? My FB is still stock, and does not have the GSL-LE swap or really anything else right now.

If this doesn't prove to be excessively cost-prohibitive I may undertake this in the near future.

You want an baffled fuel tank. Custom intercooler plumbing, upgraded radiator, custom engine/trans mounts. I don't know if you can keep the PPF in with an RE-W in an FB.

I know it has been done many times, I just haven't done any research on it.

I am boosting my 12a, and when it goes BOOM (sooner that later most likely) I will go with a Cosmo 13B-RE swap.

So, I am in for the build!

Thanks for your support! Two questions though; what is a baffled fuel tank, and what is a PPF?

PPF= Power Plant Frame. That holds the trans to the engine on an FD. Google search it, it will make sense. The Miata was the first to use one.

A baffled tank is what is used in Fuel injected cars to avoid starvation caused by the fuel sloshing around. I believe GSL-SE's have a baffled tank, whereas the 12a's didn't.

RE-Speed is working on some sweet drop in custom tanks for FB's right now. Might want to hit them up.

Honestly unless you are wanting a 500whp beast I would stick with a FC TII swap. The engine drops in perfect with a GSL-SE cover and oil pan. Just tap the front cover (which already has a depressed section where the oil line goes in and bam good to go. Trans crossmember can be custom fabbed by a member on here who sells them. Then get a custom driveshaft and your set. Its a stupid easy install. I did mine by myself at the age of 17.

The PPF supports the trans and dif, not trans to engine.

The FC 13BT would be an eaiser swap, but the REW really isn't a big deal. You wouldn't want to use the FD trans, just use an FC T2 trans/flywheel/clutch, custom driveshaft and you're drivetrain is set... the rest of the mods mentioned already are a must as well.

What makes a TII swap any easier than an REW swap? Either way, you have to swap front cover and oil pan, and then you're good to go.

I suppose if you wanted to use the stock ECU it would be a little trickier than an S4 swap just because of the electronic OMP, but S5 and RE engines are the same in that regard. Otherwise, the process is identical for any '86+ 13B swap.

dealing with the twin turbos can be a pain, as far as the work to be done on the block your spot on!
