What is this and can it be removed?
Hi all,
On top of my 13b second plate (smack in the centre on top of the motor) I have a sender looking fitting with a black rubber cover over it. It has electrical connectors and it is not connected to anything. In size it is approx 60mm x 30mm and fastened to the plate with 2 x M12 bolts. What is this used for? (Guessing pressure sender???) As this is not in use can it simply be removed and a blank plate fitted? Any comments anyone? Engine is a 13B non turbo. |

Hmm.. what year is the engine?
Could it be the EGR? I am trying to think back, but I don't remember anything that resembles that. Of course, I throw out all emissions on everything

yep x2
That is where the EGR component goes, on S4 engines. Remove it then install a block-off plate. Although I don't recall any electrical connectors, must be an Australian component. ?

Yeah, sounds EGR to me, but the US-Spec engines didn't have an electrical connector on it, just a vac line... I think... been a while since I've seen one of those
Also.... when you say M12 bolt.... do you mean that it uses a 12m socket to take it off.... because that's not the correct way to denote threads.

Hi all,
I know very little about the engine. It was installed in the Midget when I bought it. On purchase the previous owner advised "the 13b is Extend Ported and a mix of various series components". Has a detailed receipt on engine rebuild, however does not list origin of components. Point taken re the bolt detail. Thanks all, I will remove and blank off. |

Pics are worth MORE than a thousand words when trying to figure these things out. Chances are if you took some detailed pics of the engine from various angles, we would be able to figure out which series of parts were used for the waterpumps, rotor housings, side plates, etc etc etc. Best is obviously to take it apart, but that's probably not an option at this point is it?

Hi all,
Pics of the unknown "switch". If someone can identify the item, I would be appreciative. One pic is with the rubber boot removed. Thanks! Last edited by RX MIDGET; 03-10-2011 at 03:48 PM.. Reason: Wrong pic attached - now correct |

Looks like an EGR to me.
Rip it off and put on a block off plate.

Old school motors had that, it has to do with emissions. Not sure what it is or what it does. Neal would be able to tell you. (kansei on the forum) He's an expert on oem.
