Default My "RHD Turbo Coupe with a trunk" build thread.

This will be a three phase build...

Phase 1- Restomod 1991 Vert with 1991 Turbo II Drivetrain and Interior
Includes Infini wheels, strut brace, and rear bumper caps
This has been done numerous times, so not so special anymore.

Phase 2- Coupe top welded on, use vert rear window installed in custom sheetmetal rear section replacing hatch portion. (think del sol or late 80's MR2) Will also incorporate custom headliner to finish it off, and will incorporate the Targa as well.
Have yet to see this done anywhere, other than the guy who bondo'd his soft top.

My quest is to hopefully have a very unique FC, and I hope to have this done before next years SevenStock14

Here are my two cars. The Turbo II started life as a 1991 N/A Coupe, and will be going back to a N/A Coupe once all the turbo items come off of it. My Vert is also a 1991.

Started by stripping the interior. This car has sat outside inoperable for several years, so it has its own ecosystem.

Here is the carpet,

Carpet clean, and installed the dash from the Turbo II. Also removed all Air Bag components, and will be using the Momo wheel from the Turbo. Keeping the Vert stalks, Gauge bezel, and steering column surround.

Converted the Turbo door panels to work in the vert.

Looks like a good project. Not too complicted as far as phase 1 but a ton of elbow grease. Looking good so far. Hows the subframes look good as far as rust goes? Any powdercoating of underneath parts?

Ok are you deleting the hatch on the coupe in favor of a trunk type mod with a small rear window or were you saying that you were going to do a hard top for the vert like on a S2000 or Miata. Sounds interesting, looking forward to see how it all works out.

Hard top on the Vert, but permanent.

I'm for it.

I really hope it the hardtop turns out well. so its going to be more Del sol/MR2 than say... Z06? Although I've always thought the Z06 style would look better on a vert, I will keep an eye on this project and wish you the best from a fellow turbo vert guy.

Slight change to my design.....

I will be removing the soft top as before, then mold in a coupe top with the rear window like that on a Del Sol using the glass window from the soft top, but now I will also be incorporating the original targa into it. So this will be my Targa Turbo with a trunk.

This may become Phase 2 of the project instead of Phase 3, and I may drop the RHD all together on this one.

you can always go RHD later. This project will still be unique.

Well, got the car running and back on the road with some new shoes.

Once I get all the bits in place that I want to put on it, then I will tear it all down and begin the transformation. No longer gonna do the RHD, but the hardtop with the Targa is the uniqueness I am planning for this one.

Left to do before tear down:
Rear Bumper Caps
Front Lip
Clean up engine and engine bay
Change exhaust to HKS, the cheapo Ebay exhaust sounds horrible.
