As far as the distributor connections, those two just need vaccum from the intake. Therefore, those vacuum advances can allow your leading and trialing timing to be correct. There's ways around it also, but that's much more in depth. If the car is mostly stock, then leave the vacuum connections for simplicity. Hope that helps a little.
