Crank trigger kit

We've built several of these for customers looking to ditch the CAS for something that can be more accurate and less problematic. Just did this one this week and thought we'd share. The 2-rotor application requires only one sensor and two magnets to run in full sequential injection and direct-fire ignition modes. Simple, effective, and very stable. The Hall sensor is much less likely to be effected by EMI than the standard VR sensors of the stock CAS.

With the ability of the Platinum ECUs to now use the Renesis trigger, we're going to be developing a new crank trigger for the Cosmo engines based on that wheel. Basically, it will be the Renesis trigger wheel bolted to the Cosmo hub/pulley and a single sensor. Stay tuned or contact us for details.

COOL!

So, how about if you are using FD front cover? Can I adapt this on to the FD cover on 3 rotor? I'm currently at limbo about which ECU to go with.. I was recently told to go with AEM as its plug and play with 20B harness and better control. But Ive also heard great things about the new Haltech.

The magnet or Renesis version? We can build the mag version for $380 including materials, sensor, fab labor. That doesn't include the pulley which is usually customer supplied. Any aluminum pulley can be used. We've built them with the Mazda Racing and RB type pulleys. The stock steel pulley won't work.

We haven't done a Renesis version yet. Haltech just started supporting the trigger a few months ago so we haven't had an opportunity and time to retro-fit a Renesis trigger to a Cosmo engine. The price for the Renesis version should be considerably lower due to the lower cost of the sensor. If you are interested in helping us develop the system I'd be happy to work with you on putting it together for you.

The Renesis wheel won't work with the 3-rotor currently. I've spoken with Haltech and they'll look into it but I'm not holding my breathe. Honestly, with the missing tooth configuration of the Renesis wheel, I'm not sure it will ever work with the 3-rotor. I've asked and asked for Motronic support (say 36-1 or 60-2) for the rotarys but for some reason there's no interest at Haltech. That would be a very simple, easy to construct, inexpensive crank trigger option for all the rotary engines.

We can build the mag trigger to work with the 3-rotor/FD cover. No problem there.

If you're using the FD cover you will be able to use the FD trigger wheel without issue. The FD crank trigger works really well. It's just a PITA to try to retro-fit to the earlier engines. The FD front cover has the proper recess for the sensors, which the earlier covers don't. Without that recess it's just real hard to package everything. I've spent many hours staring at the Cosmo cover and FD trigger wheel trying to figure out how I could make it all work together in a relatively easy manner without much to go on.

With the Platinum Series Haltech has certainly raised their game. The latest firmware update (dues out soon) for the Sport ECUs has some neat new features and they've been pretty consistent in providing more content for the ECUs as time goes on. They're also working on some neat CAN modules that will allow more external logging and sensor inputs/aux outputs that can be easily plugged into the base ECU to expand it's capabilities. Their certainly a big step up over what the previous generation of ECUs were. You know I'd be more than happy to give you the hookup on parts and install too.
