Simplifying the engine bay
I've been on a mission on cleaning up my car and making it a little bit nicer/cleaner. I'm finally gonna start screwing around with my engine bay. I searched around but I couldn't really find much...
I have a 1985 GSL-SE and I was wondering which stuff I can pitch out and what stuff I actually should keep. I don't have to worry about emissions and I'm gonna ditch the air pump once I buy some new headers and delete the cats. My Car doesn't have power steering. My AC has been fried since before I got the car so that's coming out. I'm going to relocate my battery some where else. I'm have my hands on an e fan so my clutch fan is coming out. I seen a few threads about the charcoal canister and I'm still on the fence about pitching that. After I get those Items removed I'm going to replace all the hoses, washers, etc since I have a leak somewhere... Then I'm going to go to town with degreaser and paint my radiator shroud. Is there anything else worth pitching (I'm doing this for the sake of simplicity and the clean look)? Or Any vacuum lines I can delete? |

head light motors, fuel injection (since the 5th and 6th ports wont open when you ditch the cat)

i'd stick with leaving everything where it is, stock is best unless you build the motor especially on the gsl-se, I worked quite hard to get mine back to stock and its wonderful

When I did my engine bay a few years back I took some photos and put together a little example of what you can remove, what you can move, and where you can put it. Also, how I went about performing the actual cleaning of the engine bay. Unfortunately, since this was a few years back, you can guess where this writeup is located.
![]() http://www.rx7club.com/showthread.ph...highlight=pics Not sure how much will apply to your case, since you've got an SE, but at the very least the cleaning instructions may help you out. Best of luck with your project. ![]() .

I want it for the sake of cleaning up under the hood. And I may do an engine swap in the future so i'll have more room to work with.

Done right, an Efan is a great mod. My MR2 fans do a great job of cooling the engine, better than the stock fan ever did. And it really frees up some power that you can feel in 1st and 2nd gears.
If you relocate the battery, are you putting it in the passenger's side storage bin (like you should)? ![]() |

Yep, the battery is going to go behind the passenger's seat once I get a box for it.

And the RB Presilencer will let you retain the abilities of the 5 & 6 ports as well.
