I did the same thing. Bought my RX7 when I was 18. I knew a lot about cars but not so much about rotaries. Blew my engine when I was 20. Didn't have the funds to fix it until I was like 24 and now know the car like the back of my hand. I'm sure he will find out within a couple years if he can handle the upkeep and expenses. Some people learn by other's mistakes, and others (like me) learn the hard way. But I love my car and would never regret the purchase.

I drove my stock FD as a DD for 11 years before it needed a new engine. Coolant seals went paint faded etc. So I'm rebuilding her and hope to have it back on the road this year. As others have said do all RELIABILITY mods first. That is the best money you can spend.
