Aftermarket fuel gauge, stock sending unit?
I dont have an instrument cluster in the car to use the stock fuel gauge. I also want to use the stock sending unit. Has one tried an aftermarket autometer fuel gauge? I just want to see before i have to go measuring ohms and whatnot to see if it will work.

Autometer does not make a gauge that will work with out senders, per se. They do have a programable fuel gauge though that does work with the factory sender, and works quite well actually. I fucked around with this for a long time and tried a variety of cominations. The stock sender is superior in repeatability to any of the aftermarket ones that I dealt with including autometers own sender, marine senders and expensive Marine Wema senders.
Best I have found was the stock sender and the programmable gauge.

About $100, no link as they offer it in a bunch of different series. Cobalt I know for sure. They've got a bunch of different ohm ranges for popular cars, thier 0-90, 33-240 for aftermkt senders, and then one that's programmable.
To program it you run the tank to empty, or where you want empty to be. Turn it off, push and hold a button, turn it on, it captures the ohmage go fill up, push the button again, it reads the high level's ohms, done.

I like the programable becuase you can make your tank pysically 1/4 full and have the gauge read empty.
