Default Just signed up, hello all!

I recently read an article in Modified magazine that featured this site owner's vehicles. It piqued my interest, mainly because I wanted to track down the man who built his engine. So here I am.

I own a 1989 Rx-7 TII, that I purchased back in 2004. After a brief time with it, about 2 years, the engine started to lose compression and was unable to maintain idle. I saw this and immediately started making plans to rebuild, yanking the engine and many other parts in the process. Well, life interrupted and my plans got shelved for some time. The car has sat for several years now, and I am finally issuing myself the ultimatum of getting it running or selling it and moving on. I obviously prefer the first option, and that's why I am here. I also have been lured back from the lure of a V8 swap, I had all but purchased a new V8 before my Mazdaspeed6 with newly installed intake, reminded me how much I love a turbocharged engine. I realize now how much I miss and would miss the old rotary!

It's going to be a long road back, I could use all the help I can get. My first decision is where to get the engine rebuilt. I look forward to spending some time on the board, thanks for listening/reading.

Awesome! Welcome!

My builder's name is: Luis Canizales, in Gadsden, AL. His phone number is: 256-458-8900

He has been building Rotary engines for past 30 years and his specialty is Old School Carb cars. He built his own lapping table, cranks every engine he build on an engine stand, pre-break in the engine by going through several heat cycles (about 1-2 hours of running time and 4-10 heat cycles.. all this time takes time so don't expect to be cheap). I highly recommend his work!

Thank you very much sir, I will be contacting him soon. They mention those same things in the article, and there is something about that I find appealing. Thanks for the info!

Wow, sounds like you keep him pretty busy!
Hopefully he has time for me. Thanks again, I will definitely be in touch with him.

BTW, it sounds like you are expecting the Cosmo engine to blow, any reason for that?

He does my stuff when he's not doing other people's engine. I'm in no hurry.

The 20B makes quite a bit of heat. Also, I'm not sure how well the engine was kept before me and condition of the seals. I also like to be prepared and will be putting 13B rotor housings instead of older 20B housing (better exhaust sleeves).
