Default Running strange in high gear?

At low rpms like 2200 or 2300 rpms in 4th and 5th gear if I try to give my car gas it seems to shake and not have any power. The turbo makes a fluttering noise and the boost gauge also flutters. Not exactly sure what it could be. At higher rpms in those gears it has plenty of power and all other gears runs fine and has plenty of power. There is an exhaust leak in between the turbo and the rotor housings that I haven't been able to fix yet. That's the only thing I can think of. Any ideas?

umm, I cant comment about fixing it, but my car smokes in the engine to exhaust manifold area at random times, and I have a smiiliar problem with bogging in low rpm in high gears, but I think that a vac leak seems is the reason for my hesitation.

Is your car modified? Do you have the emissions intact, any mods, any strange things you notice like leaks, smoke, noises, etc?

It has an exhaust and an intake with a stock ecu. Nothing other than that. It does have an exhaust leak in between the turbo manifold and the block.

That's your problem, or the place to start. You do know how turbo's generate power right?

Haha yea I do I figured that was the problem but I wasn't sure if something else my be causing it. I know the thermowax system isn't hooked up and I'm going to fix it but I didn't know if that may affect it also

Dude, you can't properly diagnose a piss-poor running car until you know that everything is working properly. You're chasing your tail when the biscuit is laying on the floor in front of you.

My exhaust gasket is blown out, why can't my turbo spool. The car chokes itself and the secondaries aren't working right. You've diagnosed the problems, now fix them. If it's still having the same issues, than it's time to look elsewhere. But why look elsewhere when two causes for the problems you're having are known and staring you in the face?

Fix the exhaust leak, rip out the thermowax system and the secondary butterflies. These are two things that are wrong. Wrong things make cars not run right. Fix the wrong things, if it's still wrong, then start looking for other things that aren't right.

Ok thanks Ill fix that. Would the leak also cause poor cranking and how would I go about taking the thermowax system and secondary butterflies out?

No, I'm not going to give you the step by step on that. It's been covered a million times here and on the other 3 forums. It's been talked about, written up, denouced, beaten to death, praised, flow tested, pissed on, held high, raved about, ignored, sold, bought and bitched about. Search for TB mod and set up a new folder for pictures

Ok. I wasn't really wanting a step by step just trying to get a rough idea. Would removing the system cause poor cold start?

/\ You might have to hold the gas pedal for a sec or two, but my own thermowax system is so screwed up that I gotta do that anyway, so it's not much of a problem when you get used to it.

Plus it helps you to learn that you should warm up your rotary before you drive off.
