Decluttering my engine bay?
I've got my engine out for a rebuild, and am wondering what people have done to tidy the compartment up and free up some space. Everything that came with the car in in there, with the exception of the air pump.
Thanks for your input. |

relocate battery to the storage bins
replace airbox with K&N Cone filter replace clutch fan with electric unit remove A/C Remove P/S (not recommended if you plan to drift) remove ACV Remove OMP (only on S4, if it's broken, S5 cars need a ECU chip to remove it) Remove charcoal Canister purchase a radiator cooling panel (corksport) replace the exhaust manifold with a Racing Beat header (performance gain and looks a LOT better) These things are all unnecesary, but that's a good list. There are complications that arise from some of these "mods" that you need to consider before actually doing them.

Clean S4 Nutswinger

Convert to mid-engine.
But yeah, basically everything that's been said already. Also having a squeaky-clean engine bay really improves the look.

/\ dont do it!'
Maybe I just suck at wrapping harnesses, but it gave me hell to do mine! A lot of the plugs either had too much wire, or didnt reach quite right, so I had to redo it twice! I would reccomend simply getting some "non-chlorinated" brake cleaner (wont harm the plastic connectors) getting the harness dissconected, and spraying it down/wiping it off. This will make it look a million times better and save a million headaches...

no airpump? Do you have the yohoo belt or pullies to make sure the water pump is getting proper belt contact at high RPMS? why are you rebuilding btw?
ditch the PS, the way the road feels without PS is worth it. parking isn't fun with wider wheels but you get over it. Max did a good job with the list, you can't really take anything else out besides the AC lines and coils. SOmeone said electric water pump, it cleans up a lot of space for sure: just impretend all the cool stuff isn't there.... THere is so much going on in that picture it hurts....

You can still clean up a lot of things from that bay...
As for the electric water pump... how do you even mate that to the engine without the waterpump housing?
