Word on the Aerocatch.

The time frame is more than likely however long it takes to get NEAR 15 interested people/deposits... We are talking FC people but then those of us who can afford to splurge on our FCs like they're FDs probably want this hood (You know... about 10 FC people with FD money)

I'll probably double deposit to help out as it still comes in way cheaper than getting a discontinued, genuine one from Japan.

BTW, I had a hard time saying that in my head, ROFL. I can only imagine how tongue tied I'd get saying it out loud.

yup, I have a set of aero catch too....just scared to install it on the FG hood. I think FC owners are slowly changing....at least the older, more serious ones. I'm still a cheap bastard, don't get me wrong, i just don't feel as bad buying stuff for the FC.

I blame/thank Miata_mx5 for this, he changed my outlook on spending money for a car like the FC.

Ok, since you seem to be in the know and the communcation with Shine, here's what I'm thinking......
1) How much is the Panspeed hood? Where can it be bought?
2) How much is that garage whatever hood and where can that be bought?
3) I don't think 15 FC people with coin for that hood exist nor is it blingy enough for them, afterall, it is functional. I'm wondering how much Ken would charge to make a batch of 5? I'd put down 1/2 now if he could have it done in a realistic amount of time. Otherwise, I think I'll build my own, put the $100 down and see what happens

I read it fine. Must be the southern tongue

I think it's the people that actually stick with the cars long enough get settled in life a little more. They're not dorito fanboi fad-chasing pansies jumping from one band-wagon to the next. I'm still waiting for hybrid drag racing to catch on. It'll be a few years. It'll follow the same path as FWD drag racing. A bunch of little tennie bopping fad chasers were given their mommies hand-me-downs becuase they didn't have the coin to buy thier own car. Instead they took mommies station car hand-me-down and poured thier allowance into that. FWD drag racing was born. Of course most FC owners today are too young to remember that. All they know is how to make a lot of smoke and noise and say really cool shit like slideways, or slide or die, or I'm killing it, or check out my lip dawg, it's like 2 feet beyond the wheel well, hell yeah you can fit 185's on a 12" rim .............

Cool, thanks man. I appreciate it. I'd be curious what he would do for a batch of 5 just to get it done.

Oh and I'm assuming FRP? You don't strike me as a CF guy since I know you'd want the hood painted.

1. The original Panspeed hood, when sites were still listing they could get it, had it well over 1,300. Basically used from Japanese auctions is probably the only way you or any company will get one for you now.

2. The online store for the Garage Kagotani site is down so I can't tell you the exact price at current exchange rate but I do know it should be less than 700. Tom (Circuit Theory on the forums) and RHDJapan can get them.

From Ken:

Hey Ejayce,

The reason why I posted it up is to see if I would get at least 15. You're perhaps more in tuned with what the FC community wants and what theyre willing to pay. I actually ditched the Panspeed project a loooong time ago because there was not enough demand before. We're talking 2 years ago at least. That is why I was surprised that the hood had arrived as I told my source in Japan to sell the hood ( I bought it thinking there would be demand) in Japan at a lost if he could as the project is terminated. I guess he was never able to sell it and sent it over in the container. I figured that if I could not get enough individuals, I would simply sell the hood and terminate the project once again.

The main cost comes from prepping the original part to our standard. Im not sure how it even fits at this point. I prefer ome fitment. If it has issues, that's more work and $$$. We also produce nothing but quality standard molds at this point which cost $$$$. If 15 guys can't come up with $400 for a quality , rare, functional hood such as this, I don't know what to say. The reason I wanted to price to hood very low in my opiniion is because we wanted to cover the initial cost of the project right from the start and at $400 per piece, we will need at least 15 orders. Then after 15.... we would start actually making some money selling these at $500.

15 x $400 = 6000.

$6000/5 = $1200

You might as well buy the original if you're willing to pay that much. OF course I feel our version will be better and easier to acquire, but it won't be significantly beneficial. That is the delemma with selling 5 hoods.

To be honest, to those that WANT this hood that price + 100 shipping is still a deal in comparison to when you could get one brand new. Those few that do have this hood stateside have said they've spent a MINIMUM of 1,700 to get it to their door.

Granted you could probably get a used one to your door at about this same price, it A: isn't new, B: might not be in the best condition, and C: could take you months, maybe even years, to even find one.

Just spoke with him some more on AIM and he said he's about 85% confident he'll be making the hood. He said the main reason why the first GB for this bombed was because someone wanted the Sexy Style hood and a lot of people jumped the bandwagon for that instead.

Yeah, no. FRP is perfectly acceptable for me. I actually the shine front nose and while it was less than prefect ( I bought it used) it was fairly wasy to work strait, and add a little FG to the ducts to line up better with my oil-coolers.

Cool, thanks. I think I'll wait and see what happens with Shine first as i actually like the Panspeed hood better. I like the idea of a vent over the turbines, although I wish it was symetrical on the other side, and the fact that the main vent is also symetrical.

Kill all the fanbois and let the people who actually know something about these hoods be made aware

Very true, although $1,700 is a tough nut to swallow for a body part. Especially on that I'll instantly be taking a DA to and then glassing the shit out of it...... just that much more reason I'm thinking about building my own. If I ruin a $400 hood, I wouldn't be nearly as pissed off.

Awesome man. I'm very interested, I'd out a deposit down, I'd be number 10 just to get it done for $5-600 each. We'll see what happens. It's also a timing thing. I kinda need it now...... or in two weeks actually.

In the 10 range he said they'd be approx 575 and he seems a little more keen on getting 10 but shot 15 for optimism. We gotta spread the word as he said the hoods are cake in comparison to other body parts.
